hey guys im having a problem with my 97 f150 4/6 sc 4x4. for about three weeks now it seems to be jerking or a miss or something. sorry i cant explain better. it only does it shifting into overdrive or in overdrive it just seems to jerk, no cel lights. complete tune up, fluid had been changed, hose is not leaking at no 4 cylinder. the trans shifts up and down perfectly,but seems to jerk. it doesnt do it all the time just a few times then it will quite for a while then it will do it again. im absolutely stumped. i thought it my be the converter but im not sure as it shifts perfectly. i am running the superchip tuner but i have changed it a couple times and it doesnt affect it. on average it will jerk about 6-8 times on an 18 mile trip intermitenly. it doesnt do it every trip but will usually do it every day. any help will be greatly appreciated as my warranty runs out in 600 miles. again it feels like a miss or a jerk but only while shifting into overdrive or in overdrive, PLEASE HELP THANKS IN ADVANCE guys i put this in the transmission forum but i dont think anyone knows over there so anyhelp would be appreciated

 

ok i went out todAY and changed my fluid but that didnt help at all. i took my plugs out and visually checked them and they all looked fine. so now its getting worse it will sometimes do it in third gear but mostly only in overdrive. im totally lost on this i know theres a problem but i cant figure it out its a 97 so it doesnt have a cop it has two coil packs. could there be a plug breaking down but it idles perfect. the plugs only have about 5,000 miles on them they are autolite double platinums i ran the other set i had for 50,000 thousand with no problems. if ANYONE can help please do as im LOST. AGAIN MY warranty runs out i know if i take it in and it doesnt do anything well you know how the dealership is. so help please anyone THANKS

 

Sounds just like the problem I had. There are other threads out there with similar problems. Mine was a bad spark plug wire(#3).
I at first thought it was the trans/OD but the 4.6 really likes to fire on all 8. Don't know if you changed the wires with the plugs, but even if you did you could have got a bad wire. A lot of people hammered me for the type of wires I bought saying only OEM will do, but OEM only had a 12 month guarentee and the ones I bought are lifetime. Time will tell.

i wanted to thank everyone that replied and let you know that the problem turned out to be the trans fluid. after driving it around for about 15 miles it stopped all that jerking. but what remains a mystery is that it was changed supposedly 5000 miles ago by a shop that is very reputable. i did find out that the shop used mercon 3 and it requires mercon 5 so maybe that was it but im still weary because it shouls havw lasted longer than 5000 miles. that 5000 miles did stretch over 9 months and i do live in a mountainous area . thanks for all the advice.
