Cool

HI!... xbwfo : If you knew anything about these engines you would see that, that intake on the bench you posted out of my gallery is a PRE "99" intake manifold, NON "P.I" . I have a "99" 5.4 with a "P.I" intake manifold. Also you posted a pic of my ported/polished TB ELBOW from my gallery as well. You can clearly see from the pic that the lower intake manifold has been untouched and is totally stock. So your point of posting those pics from my gallery were????????................

The heads andcams on my 5.4 are bone stock, plain and simple.

Neal please excuse my ignorance but what does NON P.I mean I know that pre 99 the intakes were aluminum and after 99 they are plastice so does P.I. stand for Plastic Intake? Also on another topic Trans cooler from Perma cool wPart #12315 will it mount in stock trans location and if not do you know about the B&M Hi-Tek Cooler part #70298 at least that is the number in the JEGS catalog?

Hey Neal, I'm just messin' with ya .
We all know you did something to your motor to make it run so strong. What I see in your gallery is dedicated attention to detail.
What you did, only you know..............unless you spill the beans.

What I found about Toluene I got from the web.
Here's a few links:
Pros:
http://www.sunline.net/showroom/sambcruise/
http://www.gtatech.com/news_au_articl.html

Cons:
http://www.idavette.net/hib/fuel/page2.htm

NLOC Forum:
http://www.nloc.net/forum/showthread...ghlight=toluen

So far runnig the toluene for 1 day I can report that it works better than trick octane booster, idles smooth, runs strong. No problems.
BTW Don't get it on your paint or hands, it's nasty stuff.

Neal,
The point of posting pics from your gallery is to show that unlike many people here including myself, YOU have taken your motor apart.
When I do mine I'll probably smooth some casting flash etc.
Just thought you would have too.

HI!... xbwfo : If you knew anything about these engines....
I respect your work, but you don't have to insult me.

HI!... RICHARD D : The "P.I" stands for POWER IMPROVED. The "P.I" heads came out in "99" for the 5.4 engine in the F-150's. The F-250's 5.4 didn't get the "P.I" heads until "2000". Since the 'P.I" heads have a different intake port shape, FORD had to redesign the intake manifold so that it would match. The plastic intake manifolds on the 5.4 engine didn't come out till late "2001" - "2002". If I had a plastic intake manifold I would change it back to the cast aluminum one. The plastic (ABS), are known for cracking and warping.

As for the trans cooler you mentioned, I honestly don't know. I removed my stock tranny cooler and mounted my new PERMA-COOL 10"X14" tranny cooler with 10" electric fan on the driver's side in front of the rad, behind the front grill. It gets exposed to 10 times more air flow there than where my stock one was mounted behind the front bumper.

HI!... xbwfo : No problem. I wasn't insulting you, that wasn't my intent. I was just stating the obvious, about the older style intale manifold. Actually I've never had my 5.4 engine apart. I've had the tranny out and have removed the TB ELBOW, but have never got into the internals of it. The 5.4 that you see torn down in my gallery is of a 5.4 crate engine that I bought. I tore it down. The other pics of the 5.4 torn down in my truck were takin at my dealer when the head gaskets were replaced under warranty.

i think his point is that if someone where into speed and referred to themself as "the hp freak" they would be an idiot not to mess with the intake and heads while they were off for a blown head gasket... 3 or 4 times

if you are going to be all secretive about it, dont bust anyone for speculating, take it as a compliment.

We all know you did something to your motor to make it run so strong.
dont include me in the "we" you run 14.5 to me until you post a 13 in a month or 2

i'm not grumpy, other then women and money there is nothing else men get more passionate about than fast cars.

told him it was compliment and that i think he will run 13's If he gets his truck to the track.

he is da-man of n/a f-150 but the secretive stuff grinds on me.

i have gotten to many of the
and symbols for simple questions,
just asking for fun as i no intention of going to Canada to see or race a 13 second truck. I wish MIke T would sponsor him and they woud run a 12, then blow it and stomp lightnings, nothing but good R&D for the rest of us.

Set at the stock shift point on the microtuner my truck shifts at about 4850, so far no ping. I'm going raise it 1 more step now, so it seems each step raised equals 200 RPM. Time for a test drive.

xb,

different set-up than you but, I had terrible pinging after I installed a shift kit. True, I have a supercharger, but the pinging did not begin until after the shiftkit install. Adding over double the boost only made it worse . Even though a dyno tune should correct my problem, I changed the stock 195 (192?) degree thermostat for a 170 degree thermostat to see what would happen, .....it stopped the pinging. If you wanted to keep your shift points, maybe a 180 would work for you?

I raised the shift point 1 more step, back to where it was before I added octane. It still pings, but barely now.
I see some DTC's (P0147 and P0262). Problem with the O2 sensor and Cylinder No 1 injector.
So I have to address those things before anything else.

iron horse,
See my thread @ Got Pressure N/A
The thermo idea sounds like something I will try beacause its "cheap and easy" (hehe).

....yeah, for months I was pinging, now in 80 degree weather with more than double the boost, I have no pinging due to an $8.00 dollar thermostat change!!!!!!!

.........yeah, "cheap and easy".....the creed I live by

HI!... BROTHERDAVE : There is no secret at all about my truck and it's mods. I just tell you guys it's a secret to keep you guys wondering what I have done. Everything that has been done to my truck is in my GALLERY. You just have to look at it to see what I have done. It's very simple to see. As for doing porting to the heads and intake manifold while it was getting the head gaskets repaired......... well that is quite impossible since all 3 times it was done under warranty at the dealer's. All 3 times the truck was finished in 1.5 days. Now my heads gaskets are blown for the 4TH time and I've already bought everything to replace them including the new improved FORD multi layer head gaskets and I even sprung for 2 new timing chains as well. I was going to fix it next week but have decided to hold off for a few months. I'm currently saving the funds for MIKE T's full "P.I" race heads with CROWER cams. Should have them by the end of JUNE. Then I will get another 5.4 "P.I" intake and port match it to the heads. I only want to change these head gaskets myself once so I want to do it right. I'll still run the truck in it's current trim (need to get posi fixed 1st) just to prove that you can go 13's (13.99) with stock heads and cams. Then I will install MIKE T's heads. MIKE and I are hoping for 12's (12.99) then.
