Question Engine Recall 97-98 V8 engines?

Hello everyone, I had a few questions regarding something I heard a while back. I'm currently looking for a 97-98 F150 with the 4.6L or 5.4L V8, and I remember hearing about a major recall on the engines (something about the rear main seal breaking or another major thing). Is anyone familiar with this recall and if-so what engines needed it and how to tell if you had one affected in the recall? Thanks for any help, Andy

This site: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may be helpful. I haven't been there recently but I can't think of a recall on these engines.

Cool Engine Recall

I've got a 98 Expy 5.4L and never heard of any recalls on the engine either. It runs great. Steve

I have had a '97 4.6 since it was brand new and Ford has been real good about contacting me regarding recalls. I have had no recalls about the rear seal or any engine recalls for that matter. Lug nuts, steering shaft and etc is another story but all were promptly taken care of by Ford. Good luck.

Been notified on the fuel line recall several times, but no motor recall....... Doubt that would ever happen anyway, as recalls are usually only for saftey issues where there is danger of injury or death.

An oil leak would not warrant that type of response IMO.

I have a friend that has a 98 f150 with the 4.6 and he had the problem that I have heard of before where there was a casting problem in the block and caused there to be a leak at the head gasket you couldn't fix so Ford gave him a new motor last year.
