Ok, I got a whole intake from a auto wreker to modify by taking out the silencers, but I ripped the rubber boot trying to seperate it from the plastic elbow.
Is there a easyer way to remove this off the one on my truck so I don't destroy it? The article I read said to pry it off with a flat head screwdriver but this is pretty hard.. has anyone don't this befor a decovered abetter way?

the rubber may have just been degraded by sitting in a wreker yard, i have never had any problems with mine slipping right off. if u start on yours and it seems to be like the other, instead of prying, try twisting the rubber off and working slowly off, less chance of popping the screwdriver through the rubber...

thanks Jim, I didn't want to take a chance of ripping my original one so I took my whole air intake off the truck and put it in storage. then I found a way to replace the part I broke. I finnished it this afternoon and here is the result. I still have the stock type airfilter in as it will be a couple days till my K&N gets here. Also does anyone know a good produck for making all the black plastic under the hood look nice again?
murrays does have a engime detail spray, but i found that "BlackMagic" sold at murrays or any auto store works just as good, but with any of these products they will attract dirt faster due to the fact they are oil basid and leave a residue, i only spray when i think im gonna pop the hood around people..

leave the silencer, with an open filter sitting in the engine bay like that, you are sucking in hotter air as opposed tot he cooler air from the fender, plust the silencer is only supposed to add roughly 2HP, not enough to make any kind of noticeable difference, that and it helps drain water from the intake tract if you dive in the rain.
