EBAY Ford Manuals
I was wondering if any one has purchased one of the Ford CD manuals off ebay and if so how do you like it and what did you pay for it? They seem to be extremely inexpensive at a price of as low as 7.00 with the buy now feature. That can only mean that these are CD's that have been burend so I would like to know if anyone has had any problems with them if they have purchase them online at ebay ? Also do you remeber the name of the prson selling you yours therre seems to be many sellers with the same product.
Thanks,
Richard D.

Richard,
I bought one on e-bay. I don't remember the seller but I suspect they are all selling the same product.
The CD manual I received is not complete and is very hard to navigate. There is no "search" function only an all but useless "index". It is difficult to find what you want.
If you just want to learn about your truck and how it works the manual is OK. But if your planning on doing repairs yourself, you'll need something better.

Hapynzap,
The one I bought has "Ford Motor Company" printed on it. But at 7 or 8 bucks I suspect it's a bootleg but not a very good or complete copy.
How you like that FAL-270 you installed? Have you driven enough miles to get a handle on before and after MPG's? What improvment did you get?

I'm liking the FAL 270 pretty much. Went to California and drove 75-80 most of the way over and back and got 19.4 MPG. That was with 500 pounds of freight coming back too. The AC blows really cold. We've been back for 2 weeks now and still have half a tank left with 285 miles on the trip odometer. Haven't been driving much lately I guess. We plan our trips and since we work at home we only go out on neccesary trips, heh.
I actaully already have a Ford Manual on CD that I copied from a friend who owns a repair shop but some of the info doesnt come up Like the EVTM stuff and I is very vague which I think is what you are talking about wncnally. It is a good manula so I was looking at supplementing it with one of the Ebay ones they appear to be a little differtant in the layout, some have posted pics of the manula and some look very detailed. That's why I would like to hear from as many people to see who has what and who they got theres from.

If its a CD its very old and not worth much. The guy selling them is probally a tech that dug them out of the trash because they were almost useless. Ford has now gone to the manuals on DVD and all car lines and models from 1996 to the current year are on 2 DVD's that are updated each month. They contain all kinds of info including TSB'S, Recall, wiring diagrams shop manuals and more. The DVD's are pretty worthless without a dealer p/a code.

I got one of those CDs of ebay for $10 and in my opinion it's worth about.....$10.
The "search" function will only search in whatever subdirectory you are currently looking at. I.E. if you are sitting at the table of contents and do a search for mastercylinder you will get no results found. However it you are in whatever section brakes are in, you will get some results.
Another thing I didn't like was how things were categorized. Some of it is REALLY general and some was REALY specific.
Navigation through the CD is awkward as well.
However, with all that being said, once you do find what you are looking for, you can print out installation/removal instructions with pics. Some of the pics aren't the greatest pieces of art in the world, but they are recognizable and anyone with some mechanical sense can figure it out. Other pics are very clear.
So I don't feel like I got ripped-off but it wasn't the know-all / see-all manual that I imagined it would be. I like my Chiltons manual better, but I don't have to worry about getting grease and dirt all over pages printed from the CD.

The CD's are designed to work with a master cd. Without it(the Master) some of the info cannot be attained. I have both, it seems to be fine for me. The only problem I have is, the disc for the 96 model year doesn't work with the master that I have.
shop manuals
I dont quite understand the problem on the CD's here. They do not require a master CD to operate and they are much easier to find information on than the DVD. The ones you guys are speaking about with "vague" information must not be Ford.As for as the problem with the P&A code I have not tried to load one without it so I'm not sure about that but i do know a few guys that have DVD's and no P&aA and sais they liked them.
I also got one off of E-Bay and it was a burned copy. It is, as everyone so far has mentioned tough to navigate and seems only worth the $10 paid for it. Some of the diagrams are easy to read, others aren't. That being said I can think of worse things to spend $10 on.
