no start??

Any ideas why this would happen?
99 F-150 4.6L auto trans
when i turn the key to start the truck it doesnt do anything.
just dead like theres no battery in it.
but if i turn it forward to power everything up, it all turns on.
a couple tries of off\on\start. then bam it fires up and no problems
At first it was me not turning the key far enough ahead, but tonite i turned the key as far forward as it would go, and no change, had to do the off\on thing a few times then it started.

This is about the 3rd time in a few months its done this.
Any ideas?

Sounds like the notorious bad connection of the positive lead to the starter. You'll have to get underneath the truck to see it. The connector is kinda small and whimpy for a high current connection to the starter. You could try cleaning the terminal or better yet just replace it with a better one,
