Recently ordered a 75mm BBk throttle body. Was wondering if anyone has ever switched them out yet and what's instore. Any tips/insight would be appreciated. Thanks

Cool

HI!... Well if you just bolt the LARGER 75MM BBK TB on, you will see little if no effects. The problems is that the stock hole in the TB ELBOW is only about 68-70mm in diameter. The BBK TB is 75MM in diameter. Thus leaving a 2.5mm disturbance in the incoming airflow. This resistance can actually make you lose power vs. your stock TB. What you need to do is to port/polish your TB ELBOW to match your BBK 75MM TB. Here's a few pics of my ported/polished TB and TB ELBOW.

Thanks for the info Neal. Is the new throttle body just a simple bolt on replacement for the older one or is there some other things involved?

Cool

HI!... It's basically a simply bolt on. Some aftermarket TB's you have to transfer over your stock TPS, some you don't. Not sure about the BBK.

Neal,

Did you just port and polish the stock T/B or is that a replacement T/B in the pics ?

Cool

HI!... SSCULLY : That is my stock TB. It is now a TRUE 70mm from front to back and has been fully ported/polished. The beginning edge has been chamfered to allow the incoming air to flow in with less restriction. The butterfly was also polished and the butterfly shaft was cut in half. Those are old pics. Since they were takin, I have replaced the stock butterfly retaining screws with some S/S countersunk flush head screws.

HI!... FleasF-150eatshondas : Expensive? NO. I had almost everthing to do the porting and polishing in my garage. Just took time. I suppose if you had to buy the items to do it they wouls probably cost about $55.00(CAN)

Neal,

Thanks I owe you another one.

You juut saved me from buying a BBK T/B

On a side note, where did you get your adapter plate for the airfilter on the MAFS.

I was going to call Mike and see if he has them.

The only one that I have seen so far is the Pro-Flow one, aside from the L ones that have the place for the IAT ( and cost BIG $$ )

I know yours is not the stock MAFS, is you have the 90mm ported to 104 mm on at the moment, but I think that the metal one is for both sizes of MAFS.

I tried the Wolcraft duct hood, to make the plastic one, and so far it is a keeper with the testing that I have done so far.

Thanks again

Steve

HI!... SSCULLY : My intention was not to steer you away from buying a BBK TB. It was to help you maximize the benefit after installing one. The MAF - FILTER adapter for my "L" 90MM MAF was custom built by me. It's made from aluminum and polished. The adapter for my 80MM MAF is constructed from steel and I built that one as well. Actually I'm still running my stock 70mm TB (ported/polished) and my stock 80MM MAF. I have the "L" 90MM MAF but having tuning problems with it and only ran it for a few days. JDM sells a aluminum MAF - FILTER adapter.

Neal,

Thanks, the one place that I did not look ( go figure ).
I checked REMS, JLP, PSP, and the Chicken.

The price on that is not bad at all.

Sorry I did not mean to make it sound like you did a bad thing on the T/B. That was one the list of to research, and with a little work of porting and polishing I can do much better then the direct swap ( or leaving is stock Ford was also better ) then that is a good thing.

I got the port and polish stuff already, just never thought I could get that much material out of the T/B to open it up that much.

Thanks again.

Steve
