Non-L 5.4 plug launches?

With all the talk in the lightning forum about plug launches these days, I was wondering how many non-lightning 5.4s have had this problem. Mods? I'm just curious if it's more prevelant in the supercharged engines.
Thanks
Vic

Vic,

If you look for a long thread in this sention I think from JAN of this year you will see people with N/A 5.4s that have had this problem.

It seems to be that the 5.4 can ( not will ) have this problem.

It has nothing to do with the S/C, nor if you put any mods on.
Stock engines have blown plugs, mod'd engines have not.

It is a problem, and it almost seems to be blown into a huge problem, but it is not a common problem that is going to happen.

If I had to pontificate about it, it seems you are more likely to develope piston slap on a 5.4, then a blown plug.

I have no numerical data to back up this opinion, just what I have read in the posts here on how many have had each. ( guess I could count it and take a guess at how many don't have it out of the 36,000 member, and for what percentage of them have 5.4s, etc ..but that is still as raw a number as my guess,, just has some math attached to it to make it look good )

The blown plug gets more press due to the cost involved, where piston slap is an anoyance but generally does not cost money.

Don't stay up at night worring about it.

Take a look over what some have posted as the warring signs, and the proper procedure on how to change the plugs when you go to do it, and you should be good.

Enjoy your truck, there are enough other things in life to worry about without adding this to the pile.

SSCULLY,

Thanks. I'm not really that worried about it. If it happens, it happens. I've still got a lot of warranty left on my truck. Just bored at work, and wondering how big of a problem this is. I definitely realize that reading this forum will make the problem seem way worse than it is. I don't want to make light of the problem, especially for people that it's happened to, but you just don't heare about the 10s of thousands of trucks that this hasn't happened to.

Anyway, thanks for the reply.

Vic

Vic,

Found the threads on this topic ( also slow at the moment )

Just some reading on the tally count of the problem.

To compare it, there is a piston slap summary post as well.
