I found one problem! O/T

My brother bought an 88 Cavalier, and he brought it to me and told me it was missing. The first thing I did was give it a standard tune up, but look at this plug, and how it doesn't even have any guts! I don't know how it was NOT missing all of the time!

That is the new WIDE GAP plug from TrashCo. It is supposed to increase MPG by 15% and HP by a wopping 25%. They are expensive though, $49.99 ea. + S&H.

With out a close up of the plug I would have to guess at sustained preignition.

Yup, I'm with RTHuckster. Where did the rest go? Maybe inside the cylinder bouncing around? I hope not!

I've seen this a couple of times in the past. One time the car ended up with a nick in the exhaust valve, the other time it apparantley made the exhaust unscathed. The ceramic insulator cracks and drops the whole tip. I always assumed that there might be some pre-ignition involved in these cases.

So why did the spark plug insulator crack in the first place? Any chance there's a leak in the head or intake gasket? Just speculation.

Warren.
