Timing Chain 5.4

Hello I am a Newbe and have a 5.4 That I have changed the head gaskets on and the timing chains have no copper markings on them? The assembly manual refers to those marks for timing? Do I just use the 90o Reference to the heads and the crank key at 12 o Clock? Thx.

You have to remove the chains if thay are installed and stretch them so the links are flat against each other. Then mark two links on one end and one link on the other end, and use as timing marks. Send me an e-mail and I can e-mail a picture so you understand what I mean.

Hello I rcvd the info and now understand how to do this thank you very much for your help.

I have a DOHC 4.6 from a 95 Continental FWD that dropped a valve. The head is repaired and I have a new piston c/w rings and all the gaskets. I have no need for it.
I can send some photos?

How long to change the chain? I just did a head on a v10 in a E450 and it took 8 hours to get it off. There can't be too many more bolts. Is there a balance shaft on the v8's?
