Question 98 f-150 cracks in doors

yes I'm new.........

1998 f150, super cab, 3 door, 4x4 two tone grn/silver.

I notice I have a crack in the paint/metal on the outside of the driverside door, next to the bottom of the window. My coworker, who hads the same truck, had the same thing as well do a number of others Ihave spoken with.

My coworker contacted ford who repaired both doors & added a door kit. I looked around and found a service bulletin describing the same problem from 1998.

has anyone else had this problem or had it repaired?

thank-you in advance
Scott

I was washing my truck this weekend and noticed the paint cracking in the two drip notches on the top of the cab.

Yep both of my doors have the 1/4 inch cracks. I can't get too wiggy over that. I'll keep the cracks waxed good to prevent rust.

Personally, I love the look of the door cracks....gives it a custom look.....

No, but seriously, the 97-99 had major problems with this, and most of us have gone nutts trying to get a 'fix' for it. There have been varying degrees of success all around.

My crack is on the drivers side only, and it never got worse after it first appeared. Others have had more serious cracks. They look like what happens when you 'worry' thin metal by twisting it back'n'forth until it cracks and then eventually breaks.

There are many very detailed threads on the subject, so do a search (as described above) and you'll find out all you need to know about the crappy door cracks on the older rigs. I don't think after the 99's this was much of an issue.

hope this helps a bit.....
