Unhappy 1999 F150 5.4L oil leak

I have a 1999 F150 4x4 supercab 5.4L w/59K. I have the leaky head gasket problem that I have read about in several places.

Has anybody had problems with this and how bad was the repair costs. Also, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with getting Ford to take care of this problem (since is it a known problem) or if they have gotten the "there are no recalls on your VIN" run-around?

Any help/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

had the problem on my 99 4.6

bill was huge and it started very shortly once the warranty ended.

ford did work with me though and picked up part of the bill.

since the replacement about 8000 miles ago i have been fine, although i worry about if happening again.

if i remember right they had to pull the motor to do the fix and the bill was around 1500.00 dollars or so.

funny thing is i would buy another ford in a heartbeat. they didnt foot the bill, but they did step up to the plate and accept some of the responsibility.

they were way better about this truck than chevy was when i went through all my problems with my old s10. once gm had your money they couldnt give less of a crap about you. cant say the same about ford (even though the problem never should have happened.)

Look @ the post titled (Cylinder head leak article no. 02-22-7 ) a few posts down. I'm currently dealing with the same problem in my 99 Expy 5.4. With the extended warantee my cost will be $100.00. The plan is to replace just the head gasket, if the head and block are true, unknown until next Monday, with the new revised head gasket. I'm really hopeful this will permanently take care of the problem. They, the dealer, tells me that whatever needs to be replaced will be, not more, not less, to fix it.

I agree 100% billy, i love the truck and would buy another. Just got off to a bad start at the first dealer, all she did was print out a report that said there were no recalls and i asked about an estimate and she said "it is at least $900 in labor". That was it. The lady I talked to at ford was quite the same. The people I am dealing with now are trying to take care of it. He is talking with Ford and at least trying to get this thing moving.

Dvds, I bought the truck at a non-ford dealer. DOH!!! No offer of an extended warrenty, my mistake not to think about it.

I guess I just feel like Ford should be helping out, since this is a known issue with the truck.

Thanks for the replies!!

Yep had the exact same problem on my 99 5.4 Ford would do NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They wanted literally a couple thousand for the job and I truely beive more was going on. The truck lost an enormous amount of power and I would venture a guess maybe a bad valve or somethng else was going on as a result of this head problem I traded it in and bought an 02 5.4 and from what I understand this issue has been resolved. Time will tell.

The dealer that I am working with now has gone through the motions and the service manager said he was going to talk to the regional manager and see if I could get any help from Ford. I got some info on AWA's from a friend of a friend who is with Ford in NY.

Time will tell.....

Best of luck. Keep us posted. Ironically for me, about 2 weeks after taking delivery of my 02, a very small article appeared in The Buffalo News about head gasket leaks on the 99's Something about aluminum shavings or bad castings or something like that. They knew all along that there was a problem and they wouldn't help with the problem at all. I was very shocked since I had a very good relationship with my dealer. I have bought many cars there and referred many people Goes to show....it doesn't matter being a loyal customer.
