Cool

Skully -

Had the exact same problem on my '01 Screw just a month ago. Going to the airport at 4:00AM (ughhhh) crank her up and get the oil pressure light. Back up to my driveway and the light goes out. Put it back in drive and it comes on.

Ford towed it and replaced the sending unit in 15 minutes.

I've seen a few others mention it here, so it's not totally uncommon.

As far as searching, put a * after any 3 letter words; IE: oil* and that should satisfy the search engine.

oil light

B-man thanks for the tip on search engine OIL* why didn't I think of that the old wildcard tric THANK YOU! ,hey I was sure hopeing that is was the sending unit rather that an actual lack of oil pressure! man I already had an experience with that on a previous car a Turbo diesel Jetta , and the pressure actually did drop and fried the turbo like really fast! , do you think it is safe to drive 6 miles to ford dealer? or do you know where the sending unit is so I can check the wires and see if that is the problem ??? Truck is still under warranty with only 28,000 miles oil just changed by dealer yesterday! would have been nice if happened yesterday while I was up there! instead of next morning in my driveway.... thanks , Skully

can anyone tell me where the oil sending unit will be found (man there is alot of stuff on these new engines,

Angry oil pressure

Scully, this may seem redundant, but with oil just changed yesterday, have you checked the oil level in engine? Or maybe its all on the driveway. Sure would hate to see you engine messed up because of no oil. It happened to me one time ong ago, service station left oil plug loose and it fell out on the way home, just luck that I saw oil pressure dropping and shut it off with no damage.

Good luck on what ever it is

all is well was sending unit wire

Yep checked the oil first thing , and when looked under truck noticed wire was running across the filter (diffeerently) and wiggled the wire the gauge registered , so I think the guy that changed the oil must have wiggled it more than it already was!

So I drove up there mostly to let them know what had happened ,and the guy had me pull it right in and hoisted it up and made sure the wire was run properly , also documented what had happened, and if oilsending unit quits again , they will just replace , so all is well thanks guys! , Skully

Good to hear. I would have bet you had oil pressure, but you never know what all gets logged in the trucks computer for Ford to sniff out later, 'ya know?

The wire is a little tight on my truck, so I can see how it can happen.

Good to know for the future anyway !!

Skully,

Thanks for reminding me why I put in a real oil pressure gauge in my truck.

Lots of pictures

There are lots of pictures at My web site .

Take a look at BackOfMountedGauge, ComingThruFirewall, FinishedInstall (the picture I posted above) TFittings, TeeConnector and TubeInFirewall.

All of the files are jpegs.

I'll put some links here to help get you there:

Back of mounted gauge

Coming through the firewall I have since added a protector around the tube.

These are the fittings that I bought at Home Depot. Fittings

And the T-connector that I put on the Oil Sending Unit .

If you want the old unit to continue to function, obviously, you have to add in the T-connector. It was a little work to find the parts that I needed at Home Depot. I may have had better luck at a plumbing specfic type of store.

The sending unit on my 4.2 was near the oil filter.

Best of luck
