City driving usually around 12 mpg. On the highway it is quite a bit better . . . averaging around 17-18 mpg.

Really cold weather I probably lose 25% (talking like -20 Celcius or colder).

For the difference in mileage, I'd purchase the 5.4 in the next truck I would buy. The 4.6 has been a great engine and has enough power for my needs but I think for the relatively little extra cost of the 5.4 it would be a better engine for a heavy 4x4.

I had a 99 Supercab 5.4 4x4 3.73 regular axle with 17" off road. The is probably the worst combination for gas milage. The truck had a lot of spunk, and I enjoyed using it. I was getting 13 in summer, and 12 in the winter.

I have a friend who has the same thing in an 02 FX4 that can get 16 with his driving habits.

I have an 01 SuperCab 4x2 4.2 5speed 3.55 that gets 15 - 16 with my normal driving habits, and will climb to 19 on a long trip.

I have an 01 SuperCrew 5.4 4x4 3.55 and 17" wheels. It gets 14 in the winter driving it like a pice of fine china.

Like we say when I travel with my dad and brothers to South Dakota and the questions comes up: 'where do you want to stop for gas?' The answer depends on who is driving. If it's my dad, you better pee before we leave, becasue that truck has quite the range under his foot.

He had a 97 SuperCab 4x2 4.6 3.08 235/70/16 wheels and a cap. Possibly the best combination for gas milage. He would drive no more than 460 miles on one tank. That would be just before the light comes on. I think there is about three galons in the tank when the light comes on. I'd say that's about 21. That's with the truck loaded down and me driving half the time. I'm sure he had a longer distance he would travel on one tank with just him in the truck. I know at least once he told me he broke 500 miles on one tank, just don't remember the number.

1999 5.4 4x4 XLT - my gas log can be seen at http://www.tutshi.com/f150

It varies depending on temp/season/city etc... probably will be worse this winter now that I've added the command start!

Cool

HI!... I have a "99" F-150 with the 5.4. It's making about 330H.P (flywheel) and I have 4.10 gears. My best so far is 745KMS on one tank of gas cruising at 2450RPM in overdrive. I think I figured it out once at 19MPG.

I dont know how some of these guy with 5.4 is only getting 12 mpg around town, Because I have a '98 ext. cab f-150 and a 5.4.
And i have a 4" trailmaster and 36x12.50 tsl's.( But i do have straight pipes with a mac air induction system). And i work on top of a mountain so i drive up and down the mountain every day. And i still get 12 mpg.

I think with the bigger motors, load has less effect on MPG than with a smaller motor
