Power Pulley Questions??!!
I just bought a set of BBK power pullies for my 02 FX4 with 5.4L. I got them from TruckPerformance.Com for $150 including shipping. Just looked over the installation directions and seems to be quite complicated. Has anyone installed a set of pullies? Any advice to help me through the install? Also what kind of difference may I notice? Any input is appreciated. THANKS!
You're going to love that you did the pulley swap once they are on. You will notice a significant difference in power right off idle and an improvement in gas mileage.
As far as the install is concerned it helps to have all the little specialty tools to make things go faster. I did my pulley swap at the auto hobby shop we have on the Air Force base here where they have all the tools you would ever need. If you don't have a torque wrench I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself, because you need it to make sure you balance your engine correctly. Without all the proper tools, like a pulley remover, it would take forevever to put them on or take the old ones off. If you have all the right tools it is a fairly quick and easy mod to do, but if you don't you are going to regret doing it.

I LAUGH,
Thanks for your input. Your advice would have been really helpful once I got the time to install the pullies but UNFORTUNATELY I will be sending them back. The pullies are supposed to be made for my truck but they most certainly aren't. They are 8 rib pullies and of course my F150 uses a 6 rib pulley system and it would have been more trouble making them work than just sending them back. I would still like to do a pulley swap but I can't see myself putting up $250+ for ASP or JET underdrive pullies. Maybe in a few months. Thanks again.

Hi TJ's02FX4,
BBK does *not* make underdrive pulleys for the late-model F-150 V8's and TruckPerformance.com should have known that, but lack of vehicle & product knowledge tends to plague many of the big Internet-only operations. The best pulleys available for the late-model F-150 (both V6 and V8) are made by ASP, which we carry at very competitive pricing as John (JBRIII) kindly mentioned in his post.
The power gains will run 12 HP at the rear wheels, and that's very consistent. It's a 2 pulley set, crankshaft and water pump, and will require normal pulley-swap tools to install, like any pulley, and you can still use the stock length serpentine belt, which we recommend upgrading with the Goodyear Gatorback belt while you're in there. With correct tools, figure about an hour for installation from start to finish.
Our web site (TroyerPerformance.com) will have those parts listed shortly (and about 500 others, too!), but in the meantime, they are available from us immediately by calling us at our number listed below.
Hang in there, you actually *can* get good quality, correct underdrive pulleys for your F-150 without spending a fortune, just give us a call if you like.
Good luck & Merry Christmas!
