Thumbs up >>>More POWER!!!<<<

I've got a '00 5-spd with an AirAid, JBA Headers, FlwMstr 40 Series (single outlet on Y-Pipe for dual), and a SuperChp and want to add something else for more power for when I'm towing!

Driving around the city is cool. However, I need that extra power for when I'm towing my SeaDoo and Quads. I guess I need more top end power because whenever I slowdown on the highway, picking that speed up again is a pain.

I'm running 35's and 3.55 gears. I was looking into an MSD or Jacobs Kit, but there isn't too much positive feedback on it. I think I'll spend money on something else...but what??? I'm even thinking of dropping a Lightning Engine in it...is this possible?

Please take a minute really quick to tell me what I can modify (stuff that really works/is noticable) to get more power...please! Mr Troyer...?

What you really need is a lower gear ratio. Either 4.10 or 4.56 considering the size of your tires.

An engine swap is not economical. Not only would you need the engine, but also the wiring harness and computer to control everything. Even more with a Lightning engine. This takes a lot of time and money.

The #1 performance mod is a gear change. Going to a lower ratio should give you all the power you need.

What size?

...well, if I have the 3.55s right now what should I upgrade to: 4.10s? Also, I'm at about 2300 RPM at 65MPH right now (not towing). Am I going to be higher than that with the gear swap? I'm not all that informed with gears...that's why I haven't swapped them! But maybe you can shed some light on this for me...thanks bud

You tow in 4th gear, right? If that's 5th, you shouldn't be running nearly that high at 65 with 3.55's and 35 tires. I'd go for the 4.56's since you have such a tall tire.

...edit

I made a correction on my previous reply. I posted I'm at 2800RPM between 65-70MPH but I seen driving today that I'm around 2300 at 65mph with no trailer...and I think about 2000-2100 towing in 5th....however ocasionally I have to shift back down into 4th to bring my RPMs back up and then shift back into 5th.

BTW, thanks so far, these are great suggestions. And do you guys think it's really just a gear swap that's need or some more mods as well?

F150Y2K,

A lower gear ratio will really make your truck come alive. You'll feel more of a difference in performance than you have with any of the previous mods because it'll be easier for your engine to push the truck along.

At 70 MPH, with 4.56 gears, you'll be at about 3000 RPMs. This will slightly accelerate the wear on your engine because the crankshaft is turning more to go the same distance. But, you are also closer to the peak power curve, therefore lessening the stress on the engine.

Your previous RPM statement really confused me

Thumbs up alrighty!

we're moving along well boys....thanks!

How about 4.10s + underdrive pulley + electric fan kit????

There's NOOOOO way I'm stepping down from 35's. In fact once you size up, you don't want to stop there. LoL!

Okay... if that's my setup - now let's talk $$$

Gears? + Install? = $?
UD Pulley? + Install? = $?
Electric Fan Kit? + Install? = $?

If the price is right..........

gears...

With your tire size, and since you have a 5-speed, 4.10s should be good. Gears really help out with 'getting your truck up to speed'. I don't tow, but I like to race people. The 4.10s were my best mod. Really pulls hard off the line now.

Free up some HP with Electric Fans and Pullies

Oh yeah....SUPERCHARGE it....that'll give you some more HP.

Go to www.poweraid.com and look for a Poweraid throttle body spacer for your truck. The Poweraid TBS will increase your intake runner length by 1", which will bring down your peak HP/TQ RPM curves. This should allow better towing and MPG.

Cool

mike troyer sells pulleys and electric fan kits for our trucks. i will let him give you prices. contact him in the computerchip forum under the name Superchip_distributer. you can also go straight to the source and contact lee at ASP racing. they make the pulleys for our trucks. that is where i got mine. either place will work. i would go where ever you can get the better deal.

as for installation on the two products...you should be able to handle both the pulley and the fans. they are both relatively simple installations and use common hand tools. but if you feel better having someone install...i dunno, maybe somebody can give you expected numbers there. i think the dealer wanted 120 to install? don't remember. but it was not hard so i would recomend doing it by yourself or with a friend. good luck.
