K&N air filter
Yes, there are and are at most auto supply stores, at least in my area. I believe I paid $45 for mine. In my opinion they are worth the investment. You may also want to do the airbox mod which involves cutting the filter housing to expose the filter. You will find a few explanations of how to do this on this site.
I'd rather not cut into the air box. I got into all that modification stuff with a previous car and have come to see that engines and trucks have been put together by people a whole hell of a lot smarter than me, and I just rather not screw with them besides the matinees side of things.
Cars and trucks are put together with the general populace in mind. Many improvements can be made if the owner so desires by aftermarket accesories. If you will read the post on this website it is explained many times how chip, exhausts and intake can improve the performance without hurting the vehicle or voiding the warranty. Of course, as you say, the decision is yours. In my opinon automotive engineers are not infallible, but then, why did the engineers not specify that all Ford vehicles come with a K&N if it is an improvement? Enjoy your Truck.
Emissions, I have a extra K&N filter that is pretty much brand new. I had it in for a few days, then I bought a Intake system that came with a custom filter. I would be willing to sell it to ya for less than the store price $45 if you are interested. It doesn't require any mods to the air box, just drop it in and your ready to go.
