Question Chances VS. older Silverado's

Just wondering if anyone knows what a '95-'96 350 Silverado can do performance wise? Reason is a few buddies have been talkin' a lot of crap on the V-6 Ford lately. You think I have a chance against them in a race? I know those older Silverado's w/out the new Vortech engines wern't very fast. I know they weigh a whole lot more than our trucks so I figure I got a chance. Check out my Mods and give me your guys opinions. Thanks. Talley what do you think?

'99 Automatic 4.2L
-Volant intake
-Poweraid TB spacer
-Taylor high performance spark plug wires
-Diablo 4 bank chip
-Gibson exhaust

You've got all the right mods... but I still don't think it would be enough man... sorry. Best you could do is race and find out. You win, great!, you lose... take the heat.

It's what I did, I lost 9 out of 10 races in my old 00' auto. now I lose about 2 to 4 out of 10 races. keep in mind that i race all kinds of vehicles regularly.

I recenlty raced a monte carlo. it wasn't the ss but I pulled on him and kept pullin even when I was at 113mph

realistically... if he was a stock regular cab, he would probaly give you a run for your money... extended cab... would be a close race.

They both are stock extended cabs. They both have a good amount of miles on there trucks too. One of them has the 4 door larger extended cab. You still think they would take me easy?

Hey thanks for the confidence booster Talley. Now I'm going to talk some crap back to them and hopefully get a race out of them. I wasn't saying anything to them before because I figured I wouldn't have a chance against them. I have no idea what those things do performance wise so I wasn't going to embarrass myself. But hey think how those hard-headed Chevy guys will feel if they get beaten by a V-6 Ford. I can't wait! Hopefully they won't wuss out on me though.

no... don't talk smack to them, they just talk smack back. Do what I do hehe... you'll like this.

Act stupid... Go up to them and be like "hey wanna race my truck, I know it's a v6 but I added a K&N"

that way you don't get your self all talking smack to them IF you do lose so you don't eat your words you know.. AND

If you win you can still act stupid and be like "WOW!!!! My small v6 truck just beat a V8!!!..." and say "WTF?" and tell them "What Happened?" and "You should've beat me" HEHEHE

that way you never eat your words and if you win you can act stupid and can probably get another race and then you really rub it in. In the mean time them and all thier buddies are like then they are mad and then they get dumbfounded like

It gets them more emotional this way... trust me... LMAO!!!!

Before my supercharger I was able to hang with a 88-98 Chevy truck, finally outran it when he hit his speed limiter.. The only thing I really know about it was the color and it was for sure a V8(loud exhaust). Honestly I doubt that you can take your friends in a drag but if they dont have a chip or programer ask them to a speed or distance race .

Oh and my mod list before the charger included a superchip, poor man's FIPK, ported TB, ported MAF sensor, jacobs ignition and wires, TB spacer(for all the good that paper weight did), true dual exhaust, and undersizes tires(works about the same as a lower gear ratio). I had all that when I raced the chevy.

Yeah good point Talley. I'll see if they wanna beat up on the poor little weak *** Ford. After all they should win anyway, they do have 350's.

I think you've got a good shot.

The older Silverado's (Pre-Vortech) weren't too fast. Hell, my brother WHIPS them regularly in his 2000 extended cab V6 S-10. I haven't had the pleasure of dispatching one yet, but I feel pretty good about my chances if an opportunity 'presents' itself.

Talley's right, though- never talk smack before a race.

Imagine a buncha people standing around a trash can. Everyone who's talking smack basically dumps crap in the can, with the understanding that the loser of the race has to eat what's in the can. Yeah- talking smack (throwing in your own disgusting crap) might feel good at the time, but when YOU gotta eat it. . .it sucks. Your own words are always 10 times more bitter and harder to eat than someone else's.

Sorry for the gross visual.

If the truck in question is a Vortec 350 96+ I dont think you will have much of a chance if the trucks otherwise are about the same. Stock it has 50 more HP then the v6 and about 80ft/lbs of Tq. It would be about like racing a 99+ 5.4, 350 is a good engine even if chevy does make it.

Yeah I know they are. I like GM, just like Ford more. I know they don't have Vortech engines. So they must be 95's or lower. One of them has a quad cab w/350 and the other has a ex.cab w/350. But I'll only beable to get a race out of the quad cab because the other has some problems with his truck.

I dispensed one of the 2001 5.3L chevys a while back. It was a close race, but by 80 mph I had a length on him. The truck was an extra cab 4x4 with 4.10 gears and 33" tires. I thought he'd beat me, but I made him eat his own. He schooled me with his 65 shelby mustang the next day
