Should i trade my truck in ?

I was given the oppertunity to trade my truck as is in on a 99 Mercury Cougar V-6 Auto....I turned it down because it was a auto...i want a standard,. Would you do it ? The reason i say this is because my truck can not be fast thats a fact i will have to live with....but on the other hand a 170 hp mercury cougar that weighs nothing is bound to be fast stock much less when i start modding it. Just wondering you guys opinnions. I love my truck but i also think the cougar is a great looking car. Thanks for your time

Cool

IMHO i would stick with the truck. but i personal like the looks of our trucks better than most cars. and as far as not making it fast...its not that you can't. maybe you choose not to...but you can make ANYTHING fast!!

It is pretty tough to haul anything of any size in a Cougar. I also believe your truck will hold it resell much better than a Cougar. Around these parts you can buy new 2002 V-6 Cougars for less than $14,000. not to mention that the appeal of the Cougar is so strong Mecury is droping the car. An automatic trannie will really suck the power from a V-6.
Bottom line is this is more of a personal choice, you know your needs and desires. As an afterthought, check insurance rate premiums, this could be a deciding factor.

My step father owns a 99 Mercury Cougar V-6 Auto Special Edition and I must say that car is a joke. Looks all fast and furious, but it's just slow and curious. It's all stock and came from the dealer with the ground effect kit and the wing on the back, ya it's fast but for it's size it should be a lot faster, my 96 4.9L whoops that thing until about 80, then it slowly pulls away.

I have to agree with Sproket. The Cougar is a JOKE! If you can't beat that car in your truck right now then yuo need some driving lessons man. Have you even researched the Cougar?? Sounds like you are going on looks alone.

EDIT: I was thinking you had a reg. cab 5speed? I see you are a SC now. Might be a close race. Why not get a V6 mustang if that is what you are looking for. If you want fast "stock" jsut save your pennies.

Looks like you have a bunch of money and time invested in your truck.

To pickup the Cougar, I would say no.

If you want faster, go get yourelf a ATI s/c and rack that thing up.

It already looks like a L, why not just s/c it <g>

If i get the cougar it will not be an auto it will be a standard 5 speed. My truck couldn't beat anyone...not even the slowest stock ricer you can muster....sadly its a 4.2 auto SC....I love my truck but i hate not being able to race or anything...If i got the cougar the first mod would be the supercharger they make for it that supposivly boosts its hp to 294 ponies...i just don't see anyone keeping up with that little car and that much power....well the first big mod. I don't know but if ford gives me a call i'lll probibly be a cougar owner. Thanks for your imput

Syeth--

How old are man? Just curious....

Sounds like you read a magazine or a friend told you that there is a s/c for the cougar and you are ready to jump into it? Have you had much drive time in the car? It is very uncomfortable to begin with. If anything, look aruond some more man. You WILL regret that cougar after the newness wears off. Good Luck though!!!!

Don't forget your sticker mods, and the coffee can tail pipe. <g>

If you are going to do the S/C mod on the Cougar, why not do it on the truck you have now ?

I think several people have done this on the V-6 and are quite happy with the outcome.

I really wish i had a standard tranny...if i had a standard i would totally s/c my 4.2....I love my truck its just that the 97's have soo many probs and i feel like im sittin on a hot potato ya know what i mean....i might not sell it or trade it for a cougar but im just looking i mean the turbo for it is schweet...recently found out the s/c for the cougar sucks. I just don't know im afraid my truck is gonna blow up or something....guess its just paranoia ! If talley would hurry up with the performance short blocks maybee if my engin goes kaput i would buy one of those i just don't know where i would get a manual tranney or who i would get to do all the work. Anyways im just brainstorming now...no need for the RIP sign yet. thanks for your imput

You could always go the route of a built 5.4 from one of the tunners with a 4R100, and Factory TEch valve line mod.

Pair this with a Eaton or twin screw s/c, set of JDM long tubes and pow. You will be off down the road kicking butt and taking names.

If you did this, not only woudl it look like a L, it would be as fas as one.

I am making a laundry list for mine if it ever gives me a fit outside of the warr, it is being sent to boarding school in NJ I think <g>
