Cool Diablo Chip

Any feedback from folks using the Diablo chip in the 4.2? I just found a local dealer that will install one in my 99' 4.2L x-cab for $220. Not really asking to compare chips ( since there is plently of feedback on the superchip) just wondering what experiences people have had with the chip and this engine.

Thanks!

I'm switching to a diablo 3-way chip soon... but the programs are going to be tuned by Pete Cambell. He was featured on MM&FF with his 4.2L Mustang that ran 13.3. He is currently in the 12's.

He knows all the insides and outs with these engines and I trust his tuning capabilities.

I have Diablo's newer 4 bank chip and I can tell you it works great! I would say Diablo is the better choice for the 4.2 because they now offer the 4 bank with it. I'm pretty sure SuperChips still use the old 2 bank chip. Performance chips are really simple to install, so I would suggest doing it yourself if it will save some money. I got mine for $199, so I figure you say that 220 is the extra installation fee. I'd be rich if I could install these things for $20 bucks a pop, don't let them rip you off. Hope this helps.

A 4 bank chip is a more powerful chip which allows the tuner to change things that they wouldn't beable to do with a 2 bank chip. Basically the tuner has more options because the 4 bank chip takes more control of the computer. You can get more info. from Diablosport, give them a call or email and they should beable to explain it in greater detail.

Question

Talley-

I'm in the market for a Chip. I am not brand loyal- as long as the chip works I don't care who's package it's in.

Know anyone who can burn one here locally (Southwest Region)
that I can talk to (or even better go and visit)?

The tuners here locally in AZ mostly deal in Chevy stuff. . .oh and occasionally dabble in the Fords. I need a hardcore Ford chip tuner source. Preferably one that does real-time data aquisition tuning on the open road - not just dyno pulls at WOT with the generic dealer programming at tip-in.

I've seen real world chips pull out over 25 hp over and above the generic chip programs! No Bull. Not to mention the better custom drivability aspects like shift firmness etc.

Let me know-

none in your area... i have a tuner with those capabilities in michigan. You could always fly him there as he's done this in the past.

Yeah that soldering work your talking about is called "jumpers". Sometimes they need to be soldered in to get the information transfered from the chip to the computer. I had them soldered in on mine as well.
