The big swap!!!!!!
Hi, I have a 1997 F-150 that was equipped with the 4.2 v6. I had the front cover gasket problem and it tore up my crank. So I had the crank turned, the heads reworked, front cover gasket, waterpump, and oil pump replaced. 10 months later it fried again. So, I went looking for a V8. I found a 2001 5.4l with auto transmission with almost everything to switch right from my 4.2 to a 5.4. It was a totalled truck, the guy bought it from an auction, the truck was hit in the back. The 5.4 had 13,000 miles on it. So, my brother and I are at the point in the process of changing the dash wire harness. The reason I had to change the harness was that I am going from a 1997 to a 2001 they changed the harness. Another reason is that I am going from a 4.2 to 5.4. I did'nt even know I had to change all of this. Talleywacker EDIT (Lightingsc) had kindly called my house becuase he read my post that I was doing this and he told me everything I needed to swap out to do this. Without his help, me and my brother would be sunk. We are incredibly thankful for his patience and generosity up to this point. Although we are enjoying doing this project, I cant wait until it's finiished. Thanks-a-ton

Oh...btw,
I don't remember who you are? I have only spoken to one board member on the phone, or anyone for that matter about trucks. Maybe you are mistaking me for someone else?
I've never talked to anyone about swapping to a V8. I don't believe in swapping the v6 out at all.
V6 is in my blood.

Sorry it took a little time to get back, but anyway I just installed the engine and still waiting on a few parts. The engine was a little difficult to get in but after messing with it for a little while it finally went in. When its all finished I am going to put some pics on here so you can see some of the things I had to change or modify. Sorry Talley for mistaking you for someone else. Even though this is a little bit of work, I am still happy I have the 5.4 in here rather than that 4.2 that gave me hell everytime I started it. Alot of people say its not worth it to swap, and that its to much work but its really not. You just have to take your time. Fortunately LightningSC has done this before and has helped me out tremendously. If my truck was a 99 or up things would have been less complicated but thanks to this website and a special thanks to LightingSC for helping me when I needed it. Well I will get back and let yall know when its done and how its running.
