I'm thinking about straight pipes on my v6 manual. Has anyone else done it? I'll be keeping the converter on.

I do... I love IT!!!!!!!!

for a auto... it's not good, you lose too much low end

in the manual... it's GREAT!, and you haul on the highway

not too loud as long as your exiting the back of the truck, side or turndowns under cab, and it's loud... but not unbearable. loudness is equal to a v8 with flowmaster single chamber muffler.

Loud to Quiet... Straight Pipe, Flowmaster, Cherry Bomb Glass Pack.

I may have lost a little back pressure, but on the 5-speed and the way it is geared with a 3.90 1st... you don't notice it. 5-speeds spend more time up top.... pulls way harder on the highway then anything i've experienced.

Straight pipes are a + for 5-speeds, but I do not recommend it for Auto's.... you will lose any take off below 3,000rpm!... I've had first hand experience at that!

Tally,
What do you think of glasspacks? Should I get them? I want to get rid of my stock.

For $20 bucks... it's a do-it-yourselfer GREAT bang for the buck mod that I would recommend to anyone to at least try it. If you don't like it... your out 20 bucks.

exhaust decisions

I drive an 85 f-150 with inline 6. i have stock exhaust, 2 cats and mufler, and want to go with either straight pipe or with glasspack. what would be my best bet? it is the 3 speed auto.

If you were to leave those as your 2 only options... then I would opt for the glasspack. I do recommend a good cat-back though.
