Them are some nice Mods But I still don't think that is enough to out run a Z28 I had a Mustang GT before this truck I raced a few Z28's when I had it so I know what a Z28 can do.
I've had a 97 Z28. And a 2001 F-150XL. If you beat that guy it was either because (A) his motor was trash (B) he was the worst driver in the world. Im not saying you didn't beat him, but just don't expect to beat that many because it was a fluke. Oh, by the way. If you spray a wet shot of NOS as soon as you drop the clutch its only a matter of time untill you get a nasty nitrous backfire. Your intake velocity isn't high enough. You should be at atleast 2500-3000rpms.

That's impressive to hear. But if you could post a jpeg. that would be even better. Not saying I don't believe you Tally, but seeing is believing. You better buy some forged pistons if you expect your engine to last long with that Nos.
what I meant was... I drop the clutch at 2500rpms... as soon as I hook up, I mash the pedal all the way down to activate my WOT switch... this is around 3,000rpm. I know how to run my Nitrous.
btw, The pistons will handle frequently a 75 shot w/ 2 step colder plugs without too much concern. 100 shot is pushing it, but as most of you newbie's
j/k don't know is that I'm building shortblocks for these engines and the first will go into mine.
once done the first weak link will be the block itself which is good for ~ 550BHP. I will then be using a 150 - 175 shot.
I'm working on the 99' heads right now... and I'll sometime send the 99' intakes to get honed later this year when my 2nd engine is done.
He was drunk come to find out from a a guy who knows him.

Yeah, I saw some of your other posts. You sound like you know what your doing. I just said that incase you were a kid that didn't know, alot of kids I know get heart broken when their NAWSSSSS blows their motor because they don't know what their doing. They just want to be "fast and furious". You might be a little crazy though for wanting to build a 550hp V-6 in a truck.
Why not just start with a V-8?
Why not just start with a V-8?
I plan on stopping power when I get 450BHP with an ATI Procharger. I'm just playing with Nitrous right now... nothing too serious.
I'm on my 4th bottle in 3 months. So I really don't use it that much.

Talley,
I believe you.
People just don't get it, huh? A V6 is way lighter than (especially) the modular 4.6L and 5.4L engines. Take your average Lightning. It tips the scales at a portly 4700-4900+ lbs. These V6 trucks (depending on options) only go 3500-3800 lbs.
I'm refering to a short box, std cab XL, flareside with no power options. Light. It doesn't take 400 hp to make a truck that light fly. Stick or automatic, doesn't matter. 280-300 hp is all it takes to make that V6 truck shock alot of people.
There's no reason in the world why Talley (who is making 280+hp on the juice) couldn't whomp-*** on a Z28. Especially a fully loaded one packed with amps and speaker boxes and a full tank of gas with an automatic transmission. Plus, eveyone knows that once these guys have been driving these Z's around a while and they heat up, that the computers pull alot of the timing out of their motors. Best tiime to race a Z28- right after he just got done racing someone else.
I had a '99 Lightning. And on a road course, the V6 trucks gave me fits. They can be made to handle better, and when geared properly and tuned to make around 280-300hp, they can flat ROAR out of the turns without the fish-tail experiences that the big V8/Blown V8's had. So all you out there that don't believe that a little V6 in a big 'ol truck could possibly even hang with a Z28. . .think again. They can and do. That's why I specifically went 'hunting' for the truck I have now, and don't drive the Lightning anymore. Once the aftermarket recognizes these motors/trucks. . .there will be alot of people eating their words.
Then folks like Talleywhacker & me will give the world a big 'ol
Texas-sized- "I told you so."
Untill then. . .

hey wrongdayj...
Exactly! However... my truck's race weight is 3640 without me in it... full street trim is 3980 even. I'm 196lbs as of yesterday morning.
Stock... you the lightest you will see in full fluid trim is 3965 and that is for the flareside model. no driver of course. You can remove alot of weight... but as of sunday when I was at the track, it hurt me big time.

Say what you will there is no way a V6 can out run a V8 if so he would have put up that time slip I haven't seen it yet where is that time slip Talley like you said put up or shut up.
I had'nt been to the track since last november.... I ran sunday. My best time was 15.992 I'm not making excuses on weather or the fact my tires are bald... or that I couldn't hook up at all. I ran crap times.... so my 15.83 still stands my best time yet.
I didn't have nitrous with me to run at the track. so no times with that.
I have no problem putting up what I have or what I did... If i did... I'd shut up!!!
best 60' sunday was 2.375 with an average of 2.4xx and my worst was 2.54.
In november I was consistent 2.26 - 2.28's.
Oh well... Maybe next time.

B. Even in the drag racing arena, I have witnessed plenty of V6's in normally aspirated form smack V8's of almost twice the cubic inches in heavier automobiles. It happens regularly.
Oh... I beat v8's all the time! I raced a dual'ed out 98 Nascar 4.6 5-speed at beat him by 3 lengths. he is the closest v8 equivelent to me, weight wise and all.
I've raced 1 completely stock regular cab 5.4 styleside. very close race I must say. His nose was at my gas can door by the rear tires. He was very impressed. His was a 99' w/ 35k miles. this was a while back tho.
