2001 4.2 Oil Leak

Noticed oil drops on the driveway last week, and saw oil drops on the bottom of the oil filter. Took it to Ford and they replaced the oil pump. Got back home (22 miles) and more oil on filter. Sprayed it down and took it to car wash, thinking that it just might be residuel oil, but it came back. Has anyone had this problem ? Have to take it back in Monday.

Sorry, I don't think I get it. Why would a bad oil pump lead to oil on the filter?

Could the filter just be loose? I haven't had my truck that long, so I've only had to change the oil once. But I did notice that the new Motorcraft filter leaked unless I really snugged it down, more than I've had to tighten on any other vehicle I've owned.

Just a thought.

According to the Ford Mechanic, The oil pump on the 2001 4.2 is external, and the oil filter screws right to it. Where the oil pump bolts to the front cover is a an "o" ring and the mechanic said the whole machined surface where the two mated together was bad. If it leaked at the o ring, it would drip down the pump and then down the filter.
