High-mileage V-6s

Who out there has the highest-mileage on their 4.2? What problems have you encountered, if any? Any over 200K?

If it wasn't for all these mods. The v6 would probably run forever. Abuse dosen't help either. You want to race, buy a car. These are trucks.

Click on the attachment. Now this is a SWEET ride.

Talking

I've got 81,500 miles on my 98. The truck is great, with the right mods on this engine, it justs makes it better. I still have a handful things I'm going to do to mine, and only expect more of the same great performance I've gotten.

Thumbs up

I'll probably be getting a car long before the odometer displays a # big enough to have any concerns. This little truck will stay with me FOREVER though. My very 1st lil F-150!!

Lean N Cut: I know what you mean, this is the truck my Grand-kids will learn to drive with!! Since it's paid for, it's gonna be mine for a long time. I do know of LOTS of 4.6 with 200 or 300K, but not many 6s. Maybe more will post as time goes on.

At one of the local dealerships their delivery truck is a reg. cab long bed w/ 4.6 w/ like 330,000 miles on it, & still ran daily.

I'm pretty sure my 4.6 will hit 300,000 with no major problems.

high mileage V-6

I have a 1997 with 133,000 miles on it . have experienced a loss of about 1and 1/2 gallon of coolant with no signs of where it went. I replaced it and added some bars leak and haven't lost any since. I don't race it or drive it badly so I hope to get 200,000 out of it

The parts truck at Jennings Anderson Ford (Boerne, Texas) is a '97 F250 LD, with the 4.6 auto, and last I checked it had something 272,000 miles on it. I used to work at that dealer for 2.5 years and it was on the go, ALL THE TIME!!! 0 mechanical probs with the truck then, and probably now. It replaced a '93 F-150 RC LWB which had a 300-6, auto tranny. The truck is still at the dealer and has over 300K by now.

my work truck= 99 f150 2 wd supercap shortbed V-6 auto, miles 125,000+. I replaced front brake pads twice, airfilter at 120,000, tires at 78,000 and driver's side wiper blade at about 110,000. Complaints are noisy & ticking motor that is gutless below 2,500 rpm's, rattling ac compressor (more than 1 person has asked me if it is a diesel when it is idling with the ac or defrost on). I plan on going 200.000+ and I'm not worried about that wimpy stroked mustang v-6 under the hood. Transmission? possibly it has never been serviced yet.

my play truck= 2001 lightning, 12.60's, stock tires, full weight.

Have 157,747mi @ last fill-up today. 1 waterpump,52 oil filters, 312 qts of oil , 15 transmission fluid and filter changes, 2 trips to the body shop, 2 new catylic converters, 4 new O-2 sensors ,12 plugs and wires. And I drive the hell out of it , just never spin a tire unless it's in mud or on ice. May blow tomorrow but it's earned it's keep.

Thumbs up 1999xl 4.2 5sp

Just got it secondhand at 110,000-
Looks, smells, starts, sounds, runs...
All like new.
I should do a compression check on it and post the results, the little 4.2 should go to three hundred with good oil and regular changes.
