Straight Pipes finished pipe size???
Straight Pipes finished pipe size???
I'm sick of this glasspack's non-loud BS. I'm going straightpipes all the way.... only prob is before i had the glasspack on I drove around for a couple of days with straight pipes and loved it, but there was a completely loss of all low end below 3,000rpm... SO, I'm going to reduce the pipe down and have it turndown toward the ground out the back right before the rear axle. So what should the end pipe be??? I'm starting at the 2.5" and then will reduce it down but by how much as to keep torque. should I reduce it down to 1.75, or just 2.0?... I'm not sure, but I was thinking 1.75 or even 1.5
one of the main problems with running straight pipes and winter time comming is head warping. i don't know where you live but here is the possible problem. when you start your car and heat up the block and heads and valves, then turn off your car the air from the outside seeps into the head via your straight pipes. this constant heating and rapid cooling causes your head to eventually warp and possibly crack. the muffler acts as kind of a barrier to this air rapidly seeping in. of course this take a period of time to see the result. i noticed it on my prerun-ranger after about 2 years of running dual straight pipes. just my 2cents
I would not reccomend going straight pipes without something else in the way to stimulate backpressure. A lot of BP is not wanted, but in order for correct exhaust scavenging(ie-low end torque production) a certain amount of restriction is needed. If you want your exhaust to be louder, you can also address other areas as well, like your intake. An airaid or equivelent will increase the tone of your exhaust. If you like loud exhaust, try this, it will keep your low end and give you excelent top end. Have a shop make you an x-pipe that connects where the two header pipes come together. From there run a set of baffle type mufflers(flowmaster 2 chambers are loudest). Some say baffle type mufflers do not work well with an x-pipe(i have no problem) but a good straight through packed type will be loud as well and it what is "recommened". Just my educated .02....
