2nd coil replacement
2nd coil replacement
Have had my 2012 3.5 a few weeks now and just had a master tech replace a 2nd coil on the truck. Someone here I remember saying that usually if one coil goes bad the rest are not far behind! The small used car dealer is picking up the tab for this but I bring it back to the shop on tue to find out what that screatching noise is when I turn the key. He said could be a starter or celanoid ! Only took him 5 min to fo the coil. I might ask him to check all the spark plugs .
It wouldn't hurt to check the plugs. They only last about 40k and they are gap sensitive. .030 is the best gap for new plugs. Coils can last the life of the vehicle, or they can go out at any time. Best plugs and coils are OEM Motorcraft.
Thanks glc, I appreciate this . Love this 3.5 motors excelleration speed leaving stop lights & passing.
I be yet to drive on a hwy but tonight the check light came on. 3rd time in 3 weeks. If it’s a 3rd coil I’ll replace them all . The mechanic told me the plugs are like new when he changed out the 2 coils .. I wish I could try this by myself I’ve never done anything like it. I watched a bit of a YouTube but my thoughts were nope I can’t do this! I’ll take a fresh look again on Sunday .Ford will hammer me in just the parts alone maybe! I know it’s important to use genuine Ford coils. My real issue is living on 960.00 a month. Anything goes haywire with my truck it’s not a good thing. I think I could do it if I have more patience , it’s s goal to perhaps look forward to and just think…. If I were able to pull this off?…..why I would be one pretty proud dude! Found out today now it’s coil # 5 misfire. I’m gonna get em all replaced as time goes by

Okay got an update. Took it to a real shop . They replaced all spark plugs . They were with motor raft and previous owner had mixed Bosch motor craft and were bad. They found a vacuum hose that was not tight. I’m grateful for their work. Shop said drive it for a few days see if problem is fixed as they didn’t think I needed coils. Besides that the parts place sent the wrong coils not the correct pins I think it takes 2 connector pins not 3. Plus they replaced all the boots. Happy motoring in my beautiful 3.5
