What to do.

Ok I need some advice. I have a 2015 platinum with the 3.5 ecoboost and two days ago I threw a rod straight through the block. If y'all were me what would you do? I am leaning toward a used motor then probably trade the truck. I do however love my truck but am terrified of the 3.5 because this is my second one and both were a nightmare. How difficult would it be to put a 5.0 in it or would changing the components out mainly computer even be worth it? Thanks.

See how much you can sell it for with the blown engine, compare that to what you could get for it repaired, and how much it would cost to repair it. I don't think a 5.0 swap would be feasible, and consider what that would do to the value.

Yeah, what is the price difference between an installed new engine vs. used?

A new engine installed is north of 10 grand. I havent priced it but I was told even as high as 13k. I have however found some used ecoboosts in the 3k to 4k range plus I would have to have it installed. I may just go that route then drive it straight to the dealership and trade it in.

I'd skip the headache and expense and just go to the dealer with it as is. FWIW, in case you weren't aware, the 3.5 EB that you have which has had problems dropping pistons and rods, is not the same 3.5 EB as of YM 2017. The 2017 and newer 3.5 EB is an excellent engine. Only downside to one is the horrible in town fuel mileage most are getting. But that's likely due to their heavy foot in town. If buying used, make sure to check out the function of the 10 speed auto, if the truck is equipped with one. For some, it has been a major headache that Ford pretty much ignores with sloppy shifting, slamming into gear, false neutral, etc. Some have had zero issues with it. Hope it all turns out great for you.
