Freestar 4.2L motor into an F150 with 5-sp manual?
Do you know if a 2004 Ford Freestar or Monterey 4.2L (5F2Z-6007-BA ) would work on a rwd 1997 Ford F150 with 5 sp Manual ?
Do you know the bell housing bolt pattern of the Freestar motor?

Not compatible. The RWD and FWD 4.2 have different bolt patterns. The RWD uses the Windsor V8 pattern - same as the 5.0 302 V8. The FWD uses the Vulcan V6 pattern - same as the 3.0 Taurus/Ranger V6.
I'd look for a 99-03 F150 or van engine (04 Heritage also). Note that most you will find had automatics, you will have to use your flywheel.

Do you know if it's possible to adapt the transmission by replacing the bell housing or is it fixed on the M5R2 tranny?
Thank you glc!
You seem very knowledgeable and I appreciate your quick replies.
I will try to repair the motor since it's running great.
I will replace the lower intake manifold gaskets with the heavy-duty ones and replace the timing cover gasket as well which I think is the one leaking.
Do you know if they make a better quality gasket than the standard one for the timing cover?
Thanks again!

Hi everyone.
I did fix my 1999 v6 4.2L motor.
After replacing first the timing cover gasket, did a water pressure test and water was still entering the engine.( I thought that was the problem but unfortunately wasn't)
So I continued to the lower intake manifold gaskets. After removing the lower intake manifold, I could see that over cylinder # 3 (passenger side near firewall) the gasket was
deteriorated. The rubber part was separated from the rest of the main body of the gasket.
I washed and cleaned as much as I could the area with diesel and then poured some clean motor oil over the lifters.
Reassembled the intake and did a radiator pressure test with success. Water was not entering into the oil. I refilled with 10W40 motor oil with new primed oil filter and run for 10 minutes. Then turned off the engine
and after checking the oil, I added about 1/2 a pint of diesel into the engine and run for about 5 minutes. Then drained the oiled (everything checked fine) and refilled with 10W40 Mobil1 synthetic oil.
The motor is running like new and so far (3 days of driving about 100 miles) all seem normal. My oil is so clean after all, that is almost transparent.
I used the Fel-Pro T Permadryplus Gaskets for both jobs.
Thank you all for your advice.
