4.2 to 5.8 swap

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and could use some input. I have a 1998 F150 with the 4.2 v6. She set for about a year, then I loaned her to a friend of mine, who blew the motor. I wasn't too upset cause she had about 230K miles on her. I've read that a 5.8 will bolt up to my transmission, but I wanted to know for sure what years 5.8 will work. The transmission is an automatic, I believe the 4R70W. Thanks for all the input.

Way too much trouble. Put another V6 in it.

Totally incompatible electronics. The 5.8 never had OBD2.

old or new 5.0....NO

not an issue of can it be done, more an issue of cost.

also the old 5.0 and 5,8 are not the powerhouse people think they are. look at the performance of the 94 lightning with gt40 heads intake and 4.10 gears. a new basic v6 will give it a run for the money.

The 4.2 has more HP than a pushrod 5.0, and almost as much torque. Find a good used 99-03 4.2. Almost plug and play, just a few little things that have to be sorted.
