Performance now a days is so good from the factory I think that it's also part to blame for the forums slowing down. Things we had to mod are superior and even come frrom the factory. Hell look at all the PTM stuff you can get now.

Hot air intakes do nothing to help performance on an engine that's anywhere close to stock power levels. The OEM has a much larger budget to buy software to computer model the intake system to maximize the air coming in and the noise staying out. Most modern cars use a cold air style intake from the factory, doing anything to it can hurt performance. The do open up the intake track and let me induction noise in so you sound like you're going faster.

There have been a few cases where the OEM choked up the intake to limit power. This was normally done when two cars had very similar engines and one needed to make more power. A great example would be the Corvette and 4th Gen F Body cars.
