Wrong forum (beat ya to it glc, haha), ask a mod to move it.

I have no idea what that could be from, but I'm interested to hear the theories.

I already reported it, the mods will move it when they get around to it.

It takes a moderator to move it and I have done so. Thanks, and hope you get some feedback, never heard of one doing that.

Here's your OP:

Upon trying to start a 2001 F150 with a V6 Engine there was a loud explosion under the hood that split one valve cover & blew off about 1 fourth of the other one. Any ideas about what happened?

I've heard of this happening, never witnessed it, but I've heard it is like a shotgun going off under your hood.

Two theories:
Excessive blow by pressure from bad cylinders.
You had a crankcase explosion caused by the oil being saturated with gas or flammable solvent.

Or overuse of starting fluid (ether).

I just bought the truck & it happened to the previous owner & he thought it had jumped time so he tore it down to the timing chain. Once he found out it was in time he just set the truck up for several months. My original thought was fuel in the block because I had one do it several years ago but it had the fuel pump on the block & the diaphram had split letting the fuel in. But with the fuel pump on this one in the tank I don't know how the fuel could have got there. Maybe stuck injectors? Any ideas?
p.s. Thanks for moving the post!
