It really just seems like luck of the draw with these Ecos. One neighbor family has a 2011 and 2012, both with over 20k miles and not a single issue. The '11 had a fire burn up most of the interior before they bought it and redid it, and even that was has been problem-free. Another neighbor has another '12 and his has been fine as well.

But I definitely understand the rental car situation. My dealership has our own loaners, which are old, POS white Chevy Impalas. Then the rentals that we bring in from another company are new little Carollas. Doesn't matter if the customer bought a truck, a Prius, or one of the Ferraris, they all get the same rentals. I wouldn't want either for even 10 minutes, way too proud of my truck to be seen in one of those.

That is concerning. I have a 2013 built on Dec 17th. I got it on Dec 28th. Has 24,000 miles on it now, and so far, it has been rock solid. The a/c sucks, and the sync is crap, but the engine is doing well.

That's got to be an electrical problem/electronic failure because obviously your motor can't be over heated right when it's turned on

You have some sensors that are all messed up and sending the wrong signal. Could be something as simple as a ground off, but I would guess that you have some sensors that are messed up somewhere. They should be able to trace that down.

I called the dealer today that I took it into and they said they would not be able to get to it until later in the week. It would probably be a couple of weeks before I got it back since they were so booked up.

I called my original purchase dealer back and talked to the sales manager. I complained that I hadn't even made it to 1000 miles and I was having problems like this. Told him that they put me in a dam kia rio that didn't have the towing capacity of a gerbil. I wouldn't be able to tow my boat to the lake this weekend and the other service department was talking about keeping it for a month, possibly killing the entire summer of boating for us, blah blah. About 30 minutes later, the service manager called me back and said to pull it out of the dealer it is at now and bring it to him. He would be responsible for anything that happens to the engine on the way. He said he would put me in something nice that would have the towing capacity for anything I want to throw at it.

THAT is a good dealer. It's a damn good thing you bought it from them and not where the truck is at now. "Later in the week" for something that she be at the top of the priority list is unacceptable, but, maybe it's because you aren't one of their customers

They should be able to put you in another truck. Every time my mother's 2011 GMC Yukon is taken in, she gets an Escalade or nice Silverado as a rental. And it's a relatively small dealership for 3 manufacturers.

Took it back to my original dealer last night and they said they would get to it today. They said it was most likely a sensor problem. I also mentioned that it was very loud when I first start it up in the mornings. Sounds like a jet about to take off for a few minutes or until I put the key in it. Maybe related to the overtemp warning.

Anyway, they put me in a newer model F150 XLT, so I am happy with that for a loaner.

Update: They just called me and said it is a bad CHT sensor on the head. They have one on order and will let me know when it is replaced. The sensor was the cause for the warning as well as the loud fans when starting in the morning.

Picked it up from the dealer last night. It did not get the overheat warning this morning, but the fans were still running loud. Time will tell.

Well hopefully the major issue has been taken are off! The fan noise is secondary, but obviously needs to be addresses as well

I'd bet that the fan noise is because you have the A/C system on when you start it up. Try turning the climate control system completely off before you shut it down in the evening.

Glad its fixed! All the people knocking the eco, then it turns out to be a bad sensor . I think GLC is right with the ac.. Mine does it some too, fans seem pretty loud. When i turn my truck off the fans stay on for about 3 to 5 seconds then shut off.

When in doubt blame it on the Eco.
