^^^ Why are you comparison pineapples to llamas? The EB is available in the XLT where it adds ~1100 to the MSRP. Following your logic the 3.7L is the best because it is standard on the XL and therefore much better than the 6.2 because it's only in the higher trim trucks.

Last I looked that wasn't possible. Must be something new or something I overlooked. Still a $4k difference between a base STX 4x4 5.0 sc vs a base XLT sc with eco boost. Also we are not talking standard engines so your comparison using the 3.7 XL is quite flawed. A 3.7L is a nice motor, but is unlikely to beat either 5.0 or Ecoboost. Also I am talking mostly on price for performance. To me the extra 40ftlb of torque isn't worth $4k+ The extra $4k would easily buy me a nicer boat that would likely outlive my truck.

I just went to the build and price:

STX 4x4 Supercab, 6.5 bed, 5.0 = $33,440
XL 4x4 Supercab, 6.5 bed, 3.5 EB = $33,290

Then that has changed to. Last I looked you could only get EB in a longbed rc in XL. Granted that was on the 2012 build and price list though. Speaking of the XL, I wish they would put better looking wheels on them stock than what is shown as base for build and price. Those things look horrible.

Perhaps they are intended to look bad.

Ford wants you to buy a higher trim level, or they want to you to buy a dealer installed tire/rim package if you insist on an XL.

Putting attractive but cheap wheels on the XL would encourage more people to leave the lot with a cheap(er) truck. The upgrades are where the profit is.

The standard XLT wheels are a $375 option on the XL but that requires the 101a package with them. Brings it up to $35,720 but you essentially now have a XLT with a black grille. A XLT is $37,450.

Yea it would be much cheaper to get myself a set of aftermarkets. I really don't like how a certain option forces you to get a whole package with a bunch of stuff that I wouldn't want.

You could probably find a set of takeoff Ford wheels off a higher line truck that someone has replaced with aftermarkets pretty cheap. Then you could keep the stockers for winter tires.

A lot of the threads if you read them are due to people not having realistic expectations of the motor. They have seen the ads on TV about getting low 20s, towing 11,000 pounds and heard the stories about it being fast. Well, it's all true but not at the same time. You can't tow 11,000# at 80MPH and get 20MPG. If you want MPG you have to keep your foot out of it. Also, the power delivery is extremely linear and smooth. It doesn't seem to be as quick as it is. Most people are used to there being a big power surge as the tach climbs. This motor has less than 20Ft-Lb difference in torque from 2000RPM to over 5000RPM, it just goes.
This is the most common sense post I've read in a while!
