Bill,

Is it safe to run your tires at 38 PSI? I know it decreases rolling resistance, but at the same time it's above the max rated pressure for most OEM tires. When I first got my F-150 I noticed that I was getting about 20 mpg highway (80+ mph). I also noticed I was burning a lot of rubber on corners and taking off. At about 1000 miles I was going on a road trip and I checked the tire pressure. They were at 41 PSI cold. I dropped them to 32 all around, although the sticker says 26 front 32 rear, and my milage dropped to 18 highway. The max pressure (cold) on my tires is 35 psi. I did notice much better traction and handling with the tires at 32 psi, so that's where they stay now. For trips with the bed loaded down, or towing more than 2000 pounds, I put the rear tires at 35 PSI cold.
