Hi my truck has had this slight ticking noise for the past 10000 miles. I think it could be the valves tapping but oil treatment really hasnt done anything. Iv heard that it could be a pre spark nock any ideas?

 

Could be normal for the 4.2

 

Lifters would be easily detected if you were leaning under the hood and revved the engine. Mine has a slight EGR tick, I believe. Not that the EGR is actually leaking, but the tubing is thin and may pass a(n) exhaust pulse/ticking sound through it.

 

I don't know about this being a "normal" 4.2L occurrence, but exhaust leaks certainly aren't out of the norm.

 

hey i have the same engine and i noticed this ticking sound as well...i noticed it goes away for the first couple 100 miles after a fresh oil change...then it comes back..never noticed any issues tho other than the annoying sound
