With the Ecoboost engine and the turbos.. they are geared towards power yes.. but not speed.. When punching the gas its going to suck up more gas because the turbos are being put at a high line.. I have some customers who have told me that they were getting 25 with the Ecoboost. I didn't believe at first but he came in and showed me.. It's all a matter of your driving habits.. either way oh well its a truck not a car.. run the wheels off.

WTF are you talking about?! Since when is the EB a 2 stroke? How does using more fuel help a 4 stroke motor seat the rings?

Well, I don't have the power of an EcoBoost engine, but my V6 F150 is delivering the mpg claimed. The sticker says 16/21 with a combined average of 18. I've had this truck for just over a year. I'd have to check the V6 thread that I started for accuracy but I don't think that I've ever got less than a tank average of 17. I've see a tank average as high as 22, on more than one occasion. I'd calculated my numbers for the first year of ownership and I came up with a first year average of 20mpg. This is with just about six months with 5 Star tunes in the PCM. The tunes did hit my mpg, but the power was better. I currently am running the stock tune and the mpg are up.

I do drive differently than I used to, but I'm not adverse to 7K rmp upshifts. I will put the pedal down, but I'm trying to get good mpg so I try to think more about what I'm doing.

Highway mpg isn't my best. I set the cruise at 70-72mph. I see my best mpg on rural roads where the speed limit is 50 or better. 55-65mph is where I get my best mpg. I just can't drive that slow on the highway.

Yeah, I know I have a base model truck. Maybe you think that I shouldn't be commenting on your EcoBoost mpg numbers. I truely believe that in a majority of cases, the reason EB owners are seeing lousy mpg is because of the way they drive. I had an EB service loaner for a few days once and I brought it back with an average of 22mpg. I drove it normal, not like a grandpa. My truck is a lighter rcsb 4X4. The EB was a crew 4X4.

You EB owners can enjoy the power of a twin turbo, which is something that I can't do with my 3.7. You folks have the additional option of testing different driving habits to see what will net you the best mpg. Just make it like a scientific experiment.

Pretty much spot on. Ford gave us the tools to watch our mileage we just have to use them. Keep the productivity screen on the instant MPG and learn what it takes to keep the green meter as high as possible. When I drive good the truck will make the advertised numbers. When I drive it hard the numbers drop. I drive hard and in town a lot. When I'm on the freeway I do 80 or more. I now have almost 26k on the clock and have been holding mid-17s for the life of the truck. Is it the 21 that was on the sticker? No, that was based on a much lighter truck with 3.15s and driven much more conservatively. I know my old 2005 F-150 would barely his 18 if I was driving like I had Miss Daisy and a load of nuns in the truck. Driven normally I would get hi-14s or maybe 15. If I drove it like the EB I would be down around 12-13.

about $3,000 savings on the initial cost of the vehicle and forged internals.

Is there more to save than just the difference in engine cost? If not, the 6.2 was only $1250 more than the EB when I bought in July. The Option Add On for the 5.0 was $1000, the EB was $1750 and the 6.2 was $3000.

I just played around with the build and price - the 6.2 is only available in crew cab Lariats and Platinums (other than the Raptor and Harley where it's standard) and it includes the max tow package. In a Lariat, the EB is a $1660 option over a 5.0 and the 6.2 is another $2020 over that. The EB also comes with max tow.

I also thought I read there were extra $500 incentives on EB, not sure if that exist anymore??

You have a 5.0, he has a EB. There is a *POSSIBILITY* that the EB runs rich for a while. This has not been proven one way or the other.

That is a possibility. If mpg are important to the owner, I am really having a difficult time grasping why one would mess with the EB, other than the extra towing benefit. If you drive it what I consider normal, defintely not like a grandma, you leave from a standsill with some spunk and you go 70-75 down the highway, you don't get that good mpg. It just seems to be turning out that you really have to work at getting good mpg, and then I wonder why you even have the turbos. Again, other than for towing.
