My '98 V-6 went 25,000 miles without a hic-up. I thought it had plenty of power for my needs, like towing a fishing boat with gear in the back, especially if you get the revs up a bit.

My 2000 V-6 has 8,000 miles trouble-free. Read my signature: Great trucks!

CyrustheVirus: Have you done the math for buying that '98 truck and selling it immediately yourself? Check out what they're going for privately, same miles and condition of yours? You just might be able to make some fast cash by buying it off lease and selling it yourself.

No troubles yet, currently at 38,000 miles on a 98 XL supercab with auto transmission. No serious mods, just K&N filter and Hypertech chip (until about 2K miles ago). Most mods are appearance. Getting new colored grille to replace chrome one (about time!)

I have a 97 Reg cab 4.2 and so far no problems for me at 36,000(knock on wood). I bought it at 30k miles so i have yet to see. The truck has the 3.55 rear end and mileage has been horrible, more like V8 numbers at 15-17mpg. With cruise control its even worse so that doesnt get used much. I have 265/75/16 tires now and the gas milage is about the same as with the 235/70/16s so that a plus. Only engine mod so far is a K&N. Sicne ive owned the truck its gotten only Mobil 1 @3000 intervals, not sure about before.

Just rolled past 20,000 miles and haven't had any problems with the engine, tranny, window moulding cracks and peeling window gutter paint unlike many people in various threads at this website. However, my front brakes needed some work at 20,000.

'99 XLT F/S, no mods

14K, oil change @4K intervals. Runs smooth, good gas mileage (average= 20.5), granted I live in Florida where the highest elevation point is my driveway (a whopping 6" above sea level).
I am planning a 6K trip this summer to the northeast. I will change the fuel filter and rotate tires.

Excellent engine. Had one in my '99 F-150 XLT until I traded it for my 2000 at 14,800 mi. Good mpg, adequate power, not a single mechanical problem. Traded because I needed a long box and was tired of the 5 speed.
