Well I finished mine today! I had already cut the airbox to reveal my K&N filter. After I cut the box, I sanded the edges good and it really looked nice. Today I sliced out the MAF and no problem. The truck ran well and I could tell a differance. The truck is no Lightening, but it sure is much quicker. I have the sluggish 3.08 axle, but under hard acceleration it pulls real good from 40mph to 80mph. With the Superchip under full acceleration it changes to the higher gear around 80mph. It still does not have a whole lot from 0 to about 35 or 40, but it is much better from 40 on up. Thanks for your great directions on the MAF Jupiter. I am no mechanic at all and had no trouble with the MAF mod.

bstrong, I used a coping saw and a half round file, and topped it all off with a coat of clear lacquer just to make it look nice.

Hey troy nice pics, and nice job on that MAF it looks good. As for me I'm sticking around 20 MPG, a very small improvement but a nice SOTP and no money.
Next is some platinum plugs and Crane fire wires, with the mileage on my engine that should free up a little. If not, it needed it anyway

Okay - I'm the new guy... so I'll introduce myself. I recently bought a 99 F150 4x4 Sport, with a 4.2 Liter V6, 5 - speed.

I am getting ready to do this MAF modification this afternoon. I was very impressed with the performance after I modified the airbox, and I'm looking forward to seeing if this MAF mod makes a real difference.

Thanks for the advise... hope I don't screw it up!

HAVE

K&N Filter
Airbox cut
Flowmaster 50 w/ dual exhaust out the back
4" body lift

WANT

Superchip
Replacing FLowmaster w/ Ravin Z55(tomorrow!)

Thanks for the welcome- I finished the mod in about 35 minutes following Jupitors instructions, and Troy's pics. No problems at all.

As far as reseting the computer, I left the power off for well over an hour (I actually had time for 2 beers). Does that reset the computer, or is there something else I should do?

I can say that this 6 banger is running sweeeeeet! The biggest difference was from adding the K&N and cutting the box, my Dad did the same thing to his 5.4 and he can't thank me enough for showing him how.

Thanks to all on this board for your posts. I would never have had the guts to go after my MAF with a hack saw if it weren't for all of your success stories!

Well it varied a lot. sometimes I'd get 13 then 16 and very good occasions I got over 18.... But 17 mpg with my foot in it a lot makes me happy, I am installing a JohnnyLightning Ram Air Kit next week and I am hoping that will give me at least a 1 more mpg

Well I checked my gas mileage after slicing and dicing my MAF. Here are my results a solid very solid 17 mpg. 17 MPG with my foot in the throttle a lot of times... so I'm happy...

Does the trip odometer return to zero after disconnecting the battery to reset the computer? Because if it doesn't my gas milage has gone to hell after the MAF mod. I am getting good power and no check engine lights, but I ownly got 275 miles on a full tank after the mod according to the trip odometer. I usually get around 320 or more. So I remembered that I may have wiped off about 40 miles when I disconnected the battery to reset the computer. I hope it just was erased for my wallets sake.

Yes the trip odometer goes back to 0.0 when you pull the negative termal off the battery
