Angry How about $2.00 a gallon for regular here in SoCal?

It's happened. Regular is as high as $2.00 a gallon in alot of stations in Los Angeles. I'm about 45 miles from LA and I paid $1.83 for regular yesterday. I'm driving my Mustang 5.0 instead of my truck because it gets better gas mileage. People, we need to get pissed off about these soaring gas prices! The fact is, the people of this country has not truly let the government or the oil companies know that thier tired of paying these high prices. They just keep thier mouth shut and keep on pumping gas into thier gas sucking huge SUV's. Now I know that there are some of you out there that have the money to pump as much as you want no matter how high the prices go. But you are only about 5% of our population in the U.S. Hey, good for you! And I know that there are attitudes out there that say,"I don't care how high the prices go, because I like driving my truck!" Hey,good for you guys too! No, this message is for the people who would rather not be, "Bent over" by the oil companies. We need to start getting upset about this subject. We need to let people know how we feel about this,"Raping" of the American public. Hey, no one will ever hear you if you don't speak up. People need to quit being so passive. By Passive I mean, most people will just go along with anything that thier enviornment will do to them without speaking up or any kind of objection! "Duh, please lead me to slaughter along with all the other."

Now I know there are some of you out there that are not passive. You are the people that this message is for. And for the people that think that I'm just whining because I can't afford the gas, I can afford it. I would just rather do something more intelligent with my money that would prosper myself instead of overpaying for gas. If you agree with just a tiny bit of what I've written, Maybe you could write about your feelings on this subject and send it to someone in your address book and tell them to do the same.
Well, this has been great therapy for me. I feel better now. Taxman

I agree with you all the way. The high prices at pump are not just effecting us at the pump. We are getting nailed right and left by the increase in the cost of goods and services that are dependant on the gas prices. Also since I have to spend more on gas, and not to mention my electric bill, I won't be able to spend that money on other items that I may or may not need. Which will cause job cuts. Also the news is just said that shipping costs are going to increase. All I know is this is the beginning of something ugly, major inflation.

I'm going to gripe, bitch and whine all I want!

PS: Also, your name is sort of scary

There's a reason for my name and it's not because I work for the IRS. It's quite the reverse. I call myself Taxman because I do not like to overpay my taxes every year like most. I know the strategies to cut my taxes in half LEGALLY! Thus keeping more of what I earn. I"m not in love with money and I know that money isn't everything, but it does matter and I value it. Thanx, Taxman

One of the problems that we do not have control over, however, is the fact that the members of OPEC are not all high on the USA all the time, and they know that the US is the number one consumer of oil in the world. We use about 30% of the oil produced worldwide. Also, many of the nations are not very politically stable, so they may have bigger problems on their minds than producing oil for export. Not to say that the gas companies are exempt from any blame, though, they say that the high prices are only for these other reasons, but if you look at the top five companies (in income growth) last year, four of them are major oil companies here in the US. Plus the supply/demand system that our economy is based on dictates that gas prices will go higher in summer, when people typically drive more on vacations and such, and therefore use more gas. So basically we are screwed.

CR1, thanx for the reply. It sounds like you are well informed. BUT! Excepting the,"We are screwed" mentality is exactly what I was talking about in the begining of this topic. How can any of us come up with a solution to the problem if we shut down our brains by thinking,"We are screwed?"
No, were not screwed if we don't want to be! Everyone, don't give up! Type down your feelings and send it on to someone and don't except in your mind that you are just screwed! Whoops, I just fell off my soap box! Taxman

Yup. Shell in L.A. is over $2.00 for regular.
But you know, we've done this to ourselves.
Our "elected" officials are often victims of
the VOCAL MINORITY that put ecology and
trees ahead of ALL else. We have oil reserves that would make us FAR less
dependent upon OPEC nations, yet we are not
allowed to pursue those resources BECAUSE
(and in spite of remarkably safe and ecologically tilted new methods of exploration) some 'toad' lover has the ear of
his or her representative and stops what
would be fair for all of us because of a
minority point of view. I love the outdoors,
I love to plant and harvest, animals are
wonderful and we should keep them for
posterity... but without a balanced energy plan the INCLUDEs new exploration and drilling there will NOT be any POSTERITY to
speak of!
When you read about these ECO Whacko's, don't
just toss the news paper down or change the
channel, find out WHO they are petitioning
and call 'em up and place your money on the
otherside of the coin... or more COINS are
gonna flow out of our pockets, into our
tanks (and we should BUY cars with SOME eye
towards economy ) and into the pockets of
OPEC nations that despise US!
Don't bitch to each other, make it public,
vote, scream at your elected officials, show
up at the meetings, don't let two or three
'snail darter' lovers ruin it for ALL of us!
Okay, off the soap box... gotta go fire up
my 454 Chevelle with the dual quads and make
a milk run!

who would have guessed that with a texan oil man as president gas prices would rise? lol..
Have you guys seen the new electric cars that have like a 1.0 liter engine that is really only there to charge the battery and it's used when the car goes over forty...The sticker shows 61mpg city and 68mpg highway...That kinda gas mileage would be great, but it's like 0-60mph in 4 hours...THey need to make a V-8 that runs on garbage like the dolorian in Back2thefuture...Hey I can dream can't I..
