Unhappy poor fuel economy

I have a 1995 Ford F150, strait six , that gets the worst gas mileage. I'm only getting thirteen to fifteen miles per gallon. What can I do to fix, or can I fix? I have had the truck checked out, every thing comes up clean. Please help, info is much needed.

My grandfather has a '94 F-150 with the inline-6 and his mileage is worse. His truck has always been that way. Some people with the newer 4.2 are also getting that same mileage (I get about 15 city and 19 highway, max mileage was 21 going a long distance without A/C on, 70 mph)

Plain and simple.... Get used to it. That I6 engine is a great long lasting engine, but it wikl not get much better mileage than that. I have had 4 of them, and my best was 18 mpg on a trip. That was with an automatic and a 2.73:1 rear end. Ford never has and never will have a 6 cyl. truck that gets"good" mileage. You'll hear "stories" about 25 mpg froma Ford "6" on this site, but beleive me, its all B.S...... Especially on a 300 inch. I have a 4.2 right now and its best ever was on a straight trip and it got 17.8 mpg.. Need mmleage?, buy a 4 cyl Ranger......................

I had a 95 with 4.9, 5 speed and 2.73:1 rear end 2wd. I got 20mpg city and i got 23 highway once. Pulled a 1500 lb camper and i still got about 15 to 16 mpg while going through mountains.

Going to add headers.

Future mods: Supercharger, headers, NOS, tranny upgrade(heavy duty gears, clutch packs, etc.), performance torque converter, composite driveshaft, bore engine 30 over, new pistons, crank, and rods, performance heads, new L if they still make them and I like the way it looks, and a Z06 Vette or BMW Z3.

Unhappy

Man, you guys are killing me for sure. I'm on my 7th Ford truck and have not had one that gets that kind of mileage no matter which engine/tranny combo. I drive em nice and maintain em on the border of being **** about it. Probably this New Youk air!!.. .

I am sure you have already considered this but are you running larger then stock tires on your straight six? Due to the loss of calibration in the odometer, you may be getting better milage then you think. I have the 4.2 with 315R16s...I rarely see above 15. I am having a gear reduction done this next week, hope that helps mpgs.
