V6 mpg
Usually mine gets between 23-24 on the highway. Didn't notice an increase or decrease with the Superchip.

I'm effin amazed after reading people are getting 23-24 mpg.. wtf?
what are you guys driving between .5-1.5 rpms?
how the hell do you get that kinda gas mileage?? even if I baby my truck I can only get 15.9, I don't get it.. maybe it's the tailgate? are these trucks lowered compared to mine?
any ideas? cause I am NOT asking the dealership.. they'll just tell me that's normal

The only thing I can think of is I take it really easy getting on the expressway. These trucks really guzzle the gas if you keep your foot in it accelerating. And I don't notice alot of accleration increase from doing that like you would with a V8. Just thought of 1 other thing, I usually drive at 70 mph, any faster than that and mileage goes WAY down to like 19 or 20 for me.
just wanted to take back my previous post about "how the heck do you guys get 20-22 mpg"
I figured it out and is possible with all these trucks (I think).. I used cruise control for about a 1/4 tank after mashing it for the other 2/3 and I wound up with 240 miles on 15 gal = 16mpg
if I had driven it easy and UNDER 2k rpms, I would have done 18-20 easy

2001 SC LWB 4.2L - Got 17.5 mi/gal for the first 1k mi., then went to 19.0 mi/gal at 1300 mi. and now am getting 20.0 mi/gal at 1800 mi.
Drive like I've got my jewels under my foot! OUCH!!!!
Mobil 1 at 500 mi.

Was not in a big hurry today in getting up to see my folks in KC, so I set the cruise on 65 mph and enjoyed the truck. Did the same on the way back for a total of the usual 209 miles. Filled up and got on the interstate and filled again when I got home and was reminded just how good the mileage can be when not going 70 mph+. I received 20.95 mpg, which mirrors the mileage I got last summer when I did the same thing. (20.19 mpg) Usually, when the wife is along, we push the 70 mph limit and average 17.5~18 mpg range. I have noticed this before on other trips where the speed was reduced for an extended period, but this was a reminder to me that there is a certain "sweet spot" for my combo V6/auto/3:55 SC truck and it appears to be 65 mph. Have gone slower but the next big step seems to happen at 50 mph and that is just too slow for me. I have kept track of my mileage since new and now have 30,500 miles on it. It still pales in comparison to the 97 GMC 4.3 V6/5 speed/reg cab @ 23 MPG that I traded in on this truck, but the Ford is a much better vehicle for what we need. Aside from the warranty covered problems we have had on this truck (none engine related) it has become one of our favorites. By the way, the truck is completely stock, no bed cover, but I did just put a new Motorcraft air filter in it, and it has had Mobil 1 since the 500 mile mark. Reasonably pleased Ford owner.......j.b.

I get about 16 around town. A little better on my very infrequent road trips. Mine is a '97 with about 45k miles. When I first bought it a little over a year ago I immediately went on a 400 mile road trip, almost 100% highway 70-75 mph. I got a bit better than 20 mpg. Shortly after that I had the muffler TSB taken care of that moved the pipe to behind the rear wheel. Since then I have never gotten as good gas mileage as before.

I am like you Doug, I get nearly 24 mpg on the highway and around 19 mpg in the city. I have a 4.2 5 speed with a cover and a K&N filter. I am driving to Florida from Ohio in a few weeks and I am waiting to see what I do then as that is when I do the best...on long drives. I have since up'd my wheels to 17 in. from 16 in. and it seems to have helped. Also getting ready to put a chip in mine to see what that will do for me. Be it 10 mpg or 100 mpg....I love my truck!!!

I have a 2000, 4.2, 5spd and just picked up a new SeaDoo Boat. The boat and trailer weigh almost 3000 lbs, is this thing only capable of 2000??? When I retrieve the boat from the water and pull it up a steep ramp, it requires me to ride the clutch to keep the RPMs and power band. Any suggestions? Do you know how I would verify what gear ratio I have and how big of a deal is it to get a rear end that could handle it. Should have had a V8.
I been getting 18 around town. Took a little trip on sunday got 25 mpg. Not bad for a full size 4X4.

i was just reading up you guys milage and think i have an answer for most of us. i usually average 19-21 in the town and 24 almost always on the road. i live in south carolina so the humidity is high and so are gas prices 1.52 reg unleaded. when my wife drives my truck(oh my) the gas milage sucks. but she shifts late around 2500-3000 rpms and always slips the clutch or chokes down. i have suspended her driving privelages! but i always shift at 18-2100 rpms when i am driving normal not low enough to lug but enough to carry the truck to the next gear. i never ride with the gate down because of bedside sag. you know the old truck in town it looks like they got the sides tied together to hold them up. but i also have 245 65 17" on the truck now.
