I gotta take back my previous post about my mpg.
ever since adding the fipk and chip, my mpg went down from 15.9-14.6 and sometimes even 14.

don't think the chip will get you better gas mileage for one second.. that's a big debate over in the chips section..

the banner states it will give you better mpg, that is false (even with easy-grandma driving habits, my mpg still went down)

MODS :

Ravin Z55 exhaust
GOODIES:

jvc 4ch 560watt poweramp (waitin on speakers)
Tinted Back
What's next? still thinkin):
Tornneu cover,
headers?, Jacobs ignition system?

i just got 440 miles on 1 tank. 120 miles of that was towing around 3000lbs. i've got a '00 sc 3.55 and i am averaging 390-440 miles depending on how many times i tow. i drive the speed limit or 5 over in the city. long waits at stop lights i put it in park. on the highway i drive 65 unless i am in a hurry. when towing i never go above 60.

But you do get the honor of paying an extra twenty cents a gallon for that lower gas mileage!

Best mileage ever was 17.9 on a trip. Right now around town and to work and back I am getting 13.2 ave. Bone stock 4.2 gas ****. Dependable?, yep. Good on gas?, nope. Every tank seems to give me 300 mi +/- 20 mi. and the gimme more light goes on. (4 gals left). Shift kit will be in soon. Would like a chip but am still on the fence. Its paid for, so I'll just drive it!.................

This is an interesting thread. I'm very seriously looking at an HD f150 special. I am leary of having to pay for the V8 at the gas pump all the time though. I drive about 65 miles a day. That is the reason I bought a V6 Dakota in 98. My Dak gets between 22 and 23 on the hwy at 70+ with the AC on. It has done real well. I'm surprised the Fords don't. I realize they are a larger truck but I am surprised at the number of 17mpg's posted. I would have hoped the 5.4 V8 avg's 17 to 18, that may not be the case. I sure like that 2001 HD special but I'd be paying dearly for it it looks like.

Question

I have a 1998 F-150 4X4 5-speed (regular cab) and seem to be getting about 13.5 miles per USG. (16.0 Canadian). Thats on what might be considered mainly city with a bit of in city type highway - no full time highway miles. Is there anything special you do to get 18 to 20 mpg?????

My best ever MPG was 21.0 on a trip from Killeen to Sherman, TX. and back. I made the whole 525 miles on one tank (just barely). That was before I got my Gibson 3" catback, and K&N, but I kept it right at 70 the whole way. Deal is, I was in Texas in the summer, and yes I was running the a/c, but I live in the Chicago area now, and my MPG sucks. I realize winter temps and cold starts suck gas, but is it to the tune of 5-6 MPG? Is anyone else experiencing such harsh drops in mileage?

Cold winter weather and short tripping both have a HUGE effect on your gas mileage. The fuel injection is feeding a richer mixture while the motor warms up, all of your lubricants are thicker, and the wheel bearings are all tougher to rotate. I easily lose 5 mpg in the winter in minnesota. Another factor may be a switch to oxygenated fuels in your area for the winter. I lose 10% mileage immediately when they force the oxygenated fuel to be sold.

Cool

Howdy Moli, Not insulted at all ! There's a reason I am driving a Ford now and It's not cause I like Alan Jackson (country music ).
I have owned 2 Dodge trucks and a Caravan(wifes, not mine) and have trans failure on all 3. You do the math. Between friends and family there are 9 F150's around, not a single trany problem ! end sales pitch here.
BTW are you a NYC trucker or up state ? Grew up in Westchester myself, but got to Texas as fast as I could.

I've got 24k+ miles on my truck and my overall gas mileage from day 1 is around 19.5 mpg (Haven't updated my spread sheet in 3 months).

I've noticed that if I take a trip from Houston to San Antonio, I'll get around 19.8 to 20.0 (65 mph on highway) going and around 22.5 returning (70 on highway).

I've had the same results on trips to Louisiana. It' seems as if the computer re-adjusts toy your driving habits on the last 200 miles or so of driving.

I have a standard and try to drive for maximum mileage.
