power programmer II or super chip
anybody know which would be better to get, a power programmer II by hypertech or a superchip, if so what would the power diff. be?

my gilrfriend just purchased a 99 Z28 SS and it came with the power programmer from Hypertech. It actually lets you program in the shift points which is pretty cool imho!!
I have the superchip and it does the job well! I love it! But I am also stuck with having to pay $$$ to have it re-programmed to diffrent shift points if I ever choose to do so
just my opinion

A superchip would be the best thing for your truck. Hypertech does not make a programmer for the V6 engines, they only make it for the V8 engines both gas and diesel(I am not sure about the V10). It has somethting to do with the OBDII computer system.
Hi Big Ed,
As was mentioned by another poster, Hypertech doesn't make that unit for the V-6, and in fact, they make it only for a very limited number of these Fords. It's also at least 50% more expensive than the Superchip as well.
There is a good bit of difference in how Hypertech programs compared to us; Hypertech, Jet, and most other chipmakers only tune at WOT (wide-open throttle), the rest of the time they do nothing for power. This is due to the structure of the emissions laws, in that during full-throttle operation, there are no emissions standards that have to be met, so if you only tune on WOT, then you reduce R&D costs drastically, as you don't have to independantly test & certify for emissions compliance, etc.
We don't tune like that, the Superchip works adding power all the time, at any throttle position above idle.
In addition, Hypertech, Jet, and most other chipmakers also only make one program that has been compromised to run on all similar vehicles, whereas the Superchip is programmed for the exact software revision that was loaded into each individual vehicle's computer from the factory, and that makes all the difference in the world, as that way we can fully optimize every area of the powertrain's proigramming. These F-150's have anywhere from 80-150 and even more different factory software revisions in their computers each model year alone, with different functions located in different areas from one code to the next, hence the only way to fully optimize the powertrain programming is to do it code by code like Superchips does.
All in all, the Superchip delivers a superior program that works adding power all the time, and makes more total power than Hypertech in these vehicles where both companies offer an application.
If you'd like to go over the details, etc. please feel free to give us a shout, we'll be happy to go over everything with you so you can give it some thought.
Good luck with your truck,

I was taking a look at the superchips website. It seemed that the only chip available was a "stock" style chip (1100) for the 4.2. I was wondering if it was possible, like the other chips, to have it programmed custom to whatever mods have been done. Also, is it possible to get the chip with the options like the 7.3 diesel has?
