What the..........
I hate to say but I am now having a problem with my 98 f150 supercab. I left my house this morning and noticed that my truck sounded like it was missing or jerking, I don’t know what to call it. It doesn’t sound right though. When I get into 3rd gear at a relatively slow speed it kind of jerks a little, or maybe bucks a little. It happens in 4th gear also. If I start out in 1st gear and rev the engine between shifts it doesn’t do it at all. I don’t know what to do now. I don’t even wanna drive this thing. Should I drive it or crush it?
What is the rmp when you drop the clutch out?If it is too low you my just be lugging down you motor( and it is almost stalling)My truck does the hesitate-jerk thing if I let out the clutch at low rpms( under a grand).if iit isn't this then I have no clue.
Seen lots of this lately at the shop
Check the front crank damper asap, it's made of alumninum where it's pressed on the crank, they are breaking at an alarming rate on 97s, maybe now to newer ones.
The crank trigger for the ignition is on the outer part of the balancer.
The first sign is missing, bucking, backfiring, etc. It will turn independently of the crank as the belt places various loads on it. Eventually it wipes the nose of the crank from rattling around on it.
Our local dealer had 10 in his lot with the problem, we have had two. There is no bulletin or recall yet. One lost the motor from it. (70k miles)
If all appears well, hopefully, check plugs and wires.
