4.2V6+SC...why not a V8 to begin with?
this whole v-6 thing really hit its peak with the grand nationals. cars are a different story than trucks. the grand national, gnx, syclone and typhoon were factory built cars. the electronics, turbos, waste gates and so on where already in place. all of these car were 13 second territory to begin with, so running 12 and 11 was not as hard. Starting of with a high 17 or low 18 second truck is no camparison to a grand national. the v-6 mustang is around a mid 15 second car a good 2 seconds faster than a v-6 truck. take your 13.2 and add roughly 2 second. weight transfer and areo dynamics the mustang has a hugh advantage.
like i said a v-6 can go fast but before anybody starts naming off fast v-6, last time i checked a top fuel dragster had a v-8.
one last thing, i have an 11 second driver.(12 on motor, 11 with nos) Sitting around talking about pulling the motor was a whole lot easier than doing it. not to mention all the little thing that added up that totally blew my budget and all the little bugs that had to be worked out. the next time i will buy the car that is the fastest thing i can afford (say a vette or a cobra) have a supercharger installed and enjoy the hell out of my car.

BROTHERDAVE,
I agree with you. Would I spend the money to supercharge my V6..probably not. Personally, if I had to do it over again, I would buy a Lightning. But what's the difference if you want to go fast in a V6, V8 or a 4 banger. Maybe it's some sort of superoity complex to have a V8. Or maybe it's the rareness of a superchared V6. It's all relative and personal preference I guess. I just threw in the GNX for general info. Wasn't trying to start any conflict. Thanks for reading.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the top land speed record was once set with a 6. I am an owner of a V6. I also own a V8 mustang (5.7L). I can say only one thing here. We all strive to have nice trucks. Fast or not, does it matter what we start with??? NO, it's where we end, and how much fun and how much we learn getting there. I will admit- I have a fast F-150, sounds weird don't, believe me, it's even weird-er saying it. I know I can hang with stock 5.0's, SN-95 and FOX, but that is not the point. Most guys here build up their trucks, and when they get faster, they use V8 trucks and cars as reference points in their progress, not as targets. All in all I'm tired of hearing the same ole"is it worth it" argument. IT IS WORTH IT IF IT'S YOUR GOAL. Why supercharge a 302 when you can just upgrade to a BB 460? I think my point has been made, sorry for the rant, but we are all here for a common goal, stop shotting your own hobby in the foot.
it all boils down to this(keeping in mind that most people who buy the v-6 because of the lower price) if you came into an extra $3500 and you installed the supercharger and you raced your buddy with a v-8 with a chip and exhaust and the race were dead even, would you fell like you got your moneys worth?
i am not ******* anyone with a v-6 it is really more of a matter of how better to spend $3500.
which class did the 6 set the land speed record and when?
the aftermarket for the 302 is awsome, passing inspection with the would be a b!tch with the 460.

sorry brotherdave,
but a supercharged 4.2 vs a chipped/ catbacked 5.4 is'nt going to be a dead even race
you should give these engine a little more credit
------------------
Two-Tone Green & Tan
97 F150 XLT
V6 4.2L auto 4X4
3.55 gears
MODS :
Airaid FIPK
Superchip
Ravin Z55 exhaust SI/SO
GOODIES:
12 disk cd changer,
jvc 4ch 560watt poweramp (waitin on speakers)
Tinted Back
What's next?:
Tornneu cover,
headers?, Jacobs ignition system?

patric \, you maybe right but consider this. a 4.2 makes 205 h.p. asuming a 40% icrease in power would give you 287 h.p. a 5.4 with a chip and catback is in that area. also from what i have seen supercharged 5.4 are running mid to high 14 for an increse in performance of roughly 1.5 second in the quarter. what does a stock 4.2 run? figure a chipped and exhaust 5.4 runs a 15.5. so let say a 4.2 runs a 17.0(, i have seen alot of people posting high 17's and 18's) then a supercharger would make it dead even. my numbers are rough but i think they are in the neighborhood. remember petec mustang is a little over 2 second faster than a stock one and he has a lot more stuff than just a supercharger and he is doing it on slicks.
like i said, let see what happens with a kit comes out as this is really just everyone guessing.

those are good points! the one thing I guess makes me think the 4.2 would have an edge is the weight factor. The tritons and bigger, matter of fact, when I pull up next to one, they look MUCH bigger, higher and heavier.. ya gotta factor that into the equasion without a doubt.
still .. these are all guesstamates until someone takes the supercharger plunge

weight is avery big issue- if you put a blown v-6 reg cab 2wd against a chipped and catback system triton ex cab 4x4 the v-6 will win.We have to campare very similar models in order to get an accurate comparision.Anything else would be slanted one way or the other. If I remember correctly, the blower is supposed to be adding 100hp at the crank (we will have to wait and see what the actual dyno #s are).It is going to be very interesting to say the least.
Someone has put a SC on their V-6 here.
I can't remember his name but it was a thread with quite a few post. I ran across it while researching it last month.

yes there was a blown v-6 owner here.his name was Xanman.Unfortunately, he is quite busy with his construction business and doesn't have the time to give all of "a how to do your own blower" course.Mike troyer in the computer chips forum helped tune his truck on the dyno.He was ripping off quite impressive 0 - 60 mph times last I heard from mike.SOmethin like 6 seconds.I think he was running in the neighborhood of 9lbs of boost, maybe more.Talk to mike for more details, he really is the only one in here that actually saw the truck and dynoed it.
