HotRodSix, where did you get the 70MM MAFS? What was the part #? Was it from another Ford application? Did you get a bigger throttle body? Any airbox modifications? I am extremely interested in these types of mods.

I got the meter from Pro-Flo Technologies (810) 399-9223. Talk to Jim Gonzalez. The meter is from another Ford application, calibrated to mimic the stock meter. I picked up two tenths and 1.5 mph in the quarter with this change alone!

HotRodSix, those are awesome numbers. That's one fast truck. The 180 rear wheel horsepower is incredible!

Talleywacker,
That horsepower rating is from the flywheel, everyone says we lose about 60 to 65 horses through the drivetrain. So stock you are looking at 140 maybe 145 rear wheel horses. So 180 RWHP is pretty damn impressive!

Actually black, that is not true. It is not a 60-65 HP loss it is suppose to be a 20%-25% HP loss through the drive train. I forgot who it was, but I remember seeing someone who posted stock dyno numbers on theur V6 and it was somewhere in the high 160s on the rear wheel HP.
I have yet to get my truck dynoed and I have yet to run a 1/4 mile, but I do have an 1/8 mile time- 10.94 @ 64.37 MPH. i am hoping to have a 1/4 mile time by the end of the first week of March.

f150freak, yeah i probably went a little high i would like to get mine to a dyno some day. From your signature your truck sounds pretty awesome! Have ever had yours at the dyno? These little V6's are an impressive motor!

so how come my friend's 00 lightning when he first got it dyno'd at 368hp at the rear wheels... and his was totally stock??, just like the specs say!
To my knowledge all hp specs are supposed to be at the rear wheel. so what you guys are saying is that the 5.4l v8 has 260hp at the flywheel even tho i know some that have been dyno'd also and have been in that 260hp ballpark at the rear wheels...
i'm confused now; do they just rate ours at the flywheel to make it sound like we got more hp??

Every vehicles rated horsepower is at the flywheel, most stock L's on here seem to dyno at ~320-330HP(doesn't sound like much drivetrain loss, but I think they're probably underated and not a good thing to compare against) Most stock 5.4 put up numbers between 200-210HP to the rear wheels.
If you just glanced at a dyno graph or saw the peak numbers, they could easily be skewed. Alot of dynos seem to get a spike when a shift occurs and this gets recorded as the peak HP, when really it's just invalid noise data. So that _could_ be how they are getting those inflated numbers.
As for why the use flywheel numbers, I'm sure some of it's for marketing and some of it is simplicity. If they used RWHP, they'd have to give a rating for a 4.2/5-speed, 4.2/auto, 4.6/5-speed, 4.6/auto, 5.4/auto, 5.4/heavy duty auto. Anyway, the numbers are definatly flywheel numbers. Try searching for dyno runs here and just on the net for something like flywheel horspower. I'm sure you'll find lots of info...
