Post clutch noise

I have a 98 stx 4.2 liter 5-speed and here is the problem. When I press the clutch in it makes a squeaking noise and when i let off it makes the same noise. I can hear it in the cab as well as outside the cab. Has anybody else ran into this problem and if so what did they do to correct the problem

I've occasionally also heard it. I just figured some pivot point on the clutch pedal needs oiling. Never did investigate it, though.

Bryan0929,

I have that same exact problem. Does your clutch click when pushed out after full pushed in? Makes me mad. I haven't had time to go to the dealer, but if I do i will let you know. Lemme know if you go get it checked out.

I had that problem twice. It was the slave cylinder in the bell housing. Both times mine was fixed under warranty.

Exactly, Bill. Clutch slave cylinder, likely. Early ones sometimes collect clutch disc dust and squeak. They're inside the bell housing, not outside.

Ford has modified them and will replace a squeaker under warranty. Requires re&re'ing the clutch-transmission. I had two done on my '98. My '00 doesn't squeak at 44,000 km (27,000 miles).

My third F-series (ordered new). The other two: '73 F-100 Custom, 240 cube 6, 3 on the tree, tan, "West Coast" mirrors, step bumper, knitted vinyl seat, AM radio; and '98 F-150 SC short-box XL, XLS package, Pacific Green, 4.2 5-speed, 3.55 ls, FM-cassette.

GREAT trucks!
