Question Idle Speed?

Can anyone tell me what the normal idle speed for the 4.2L V6 is? I have a 98 and it idles at @ 900 rpm when sitting in park and drops to @ 650 rpm when I put the auto tranny into gear. I have seen that the speed should be around 650 rpm but is that upposed to be with the truck in gear?

Thanks cooltrucks, Does your truck idle @ 900 rpm when you are in neutral? or is it @ 650 rpm?

Thanks for the replies guys. Sounds like mine is acting normal so I won't worry about it. I did have a rattle that the dealer couldn't seem to fix and I thought it might be cause the engine was idleing so high. Turns out after 5 trips to the dealer I had to have new brushes and regulator put into mt alternator along with a new serpentine belt. I'll find out tomorrow if this worked whe n i start it up since it always seems worse in the morning when the engine is cold.
