Post NOS for FUN(hey f150freak...)

You need to get a universal 6 cyl. DRY kit. It plumbs into your air intake tube. DO NOT go over a 75 shot on the stock bottom end. A while back I was trying to see if anyone had tested the limits of the stock internals and I didn't get a reply. So I am basing my info on the Mustang's engine capacity. I finally sprayed it today, everthing went fine and fast. I will have to fork over some cash to get some dybo numbers pretty soon. good luck....

Well I was actually thinking about a 100 shot, but I may just start out with a 50 shot just so I dont push my engine too hard.

Wow you mean someone hooked up NOS to their 4.2L??? I bet that kicks ***! Can you use Nitro a lot on a V-6 without blowing the motor and how expensive was the set up and also how often do you use it. And can it be used on a manual transmission???

Thumbs up

I read an article in Truckin magazine about a year ago, a guy with a 98 supercab step side 4.2 had Nitrous Express install a kit at thier shop. The article showed pictures of the set up as well as the step by step photos of the installation. I don't have the magazine anymore, I kept it for a long time and always went back to it for reference but threw it away one day. Nitrous express is located in Gardena,CA you can call them and ask any questions you have. Or you can go to the NOS,(Nitrous oxide systems)Website. They have kits available and also a very informative website. You can put nitrous on any thing just about! Nitrous does the same thing a supercharger does, only it does it chemically instead of mechanically. The nitrous and air mixture creates a forced induction. While a supercharger works 100% of the time, nitrous is only used when you want to use it so it does not effect drivability or mileage! You can also have the system installed, "Stealth like" so no one can figure why your V6 kicks ***! A system will cost between $650 and $750 for our 4.2's. A 100 hp shot is said to be safe by NOS for V6's. When comparing the price of a supercharger to nitrous, to me, nitrous makes more sence. Besides, you only need the extra oomph when some knucklehead is talking smack about your full size pickup with the V6 and you say,"I bet my V6 can whoop your gas hog V8 in a drag race!" I don't have my system yet but I have been researching nitrous for a long time now. If any one has any doubts about nitrous, visit The NOS website. Taxman

Nitrous can be used on a 5spd. But you gotta be carefull about your rpms and what gear you are in. I will not spray the truck in first because the revs rise way to fast. I usually engage second and smash the button at the same time and whoa, there's third gear. My kit was 479.00 but with all the accesories( bottle heater, steel clamps, purge valve, safety switch, remote opener(I really don't want to have to get out of the truck to turn it on and off), etc., it gets expensive. To refil around here it costs $30 to $35 per 10lb. bottle. I only use the 75 shot, and then only use it sparingly to preserve the engine. Trust me, I have seen what nitrous can do to an engine if too much is used, or if it is used improperly. The first(and last time) I witnessed this it cost me a new intake, cowl hood, carb, and a lot of little stuff. Good luck withthe GO GAS.

Hows it going? I am interested in adding some nitrous to my 4.2 L 5 speed, it seems that all the chevy V-8 can get me on mid range power and take off since I am just burning rubber, can you let me know what kit you bought and or where any info will be greatly appreciated, I just cant get off the line very good going to try to roll out of the line instead of just going pedal to floor. loweredfordf150@netscape.net

www.nosnitrous.com will solve your problems Look under EFI systems(kits) and look for the Universal V6 kit(should give a displacement range, ie. 3.0-4.0L) and if that doesn't work call them up and see if they'll fix you up a package. I just bought the V6 kit #5124.

Cool

ILUVNOS, I can't wait to here about how your 4.2 will run on laughing gas! Will the nitrous be sprayed only at full throttle?

Lowererdford, Does your truck have a 5 speed? If your haveing hook up problems your probably leaving the line at way to high of a RPM. Try leaving the line at between 1800 and 2200 RPM, when the tires hook up, then mash it! This works for me. I have a 98 supercab V6 with 3:55 rear gears. These trucks do need more power to hang with V8's, but I think nitrous will solve your HP problem. What do you think ILUVNOS? Taxman Oh yeah, what about that relay that is hooked up to your throttle body cable that automatically dispences the the NOS only at full throttle?

Using the WOT micro switch is an option, but i prefer to use a shifter mouted toggle (like the missle fire buttons in top gun ) so I can spray anytime, and just here and there. As far as the hooking probs LoweredFord, go out to a deserted road, empty parking lot, etc. and try out different scenerios. My truck really likes it if I start with the clutch semi-engaged, but not moving forward, rev it to about 2 grand, and dump it keeping mind of tire spin by using the clutch EVER SO SLIGHTLY to keep me out of trouble. If I dump it a low RPM it actually hooks, but then it bogs(I have really awesome tires...NITTOSSSS). Just try what works for you. It really helps to do this at a track where you can look at RT's and 60 ft.'s but for basic purposes, seat of the pants should prove well enough. .02

This is a pretty basic question, but what is this shot thing...75-100. And how many times can you use nitrous before ya gotta refill, and does it wear down the life of the engine since you are instaentaneously giving it more hp?

Well, I just got off the phone and was told by NOS to buy the same kit that goes on the 5.0 mustang. It is not a dry system... It pre-mixes the nos with the gas. The test car ran over 120 runs at the track(Honda civic w/125 shot!!!) Is was told by them to get the 75 fogger system - 100 might be pushing it. Also only run at wide open throttle. I have the Auto in mine so im putting the micro switch on the throttle body. So if im on full it kicks in, if I let off just a little bit it turns off and the truck thinks im still at full throttle... The cost of the system was about 575.00.

If anybody is running the system or any other ide like to knoe the difference in power.

I used the dry system for it's ease of instalation, and to keep me from going to large on the shot counter as the wet systems will allow you to do. The 5115 system ws what I was also reccomended by many friends, a speed shop, and nos, but I had the V6 mustang kits' parts and it works excelent. And it was cheaper that the intial kit if I were to go out and but it. I have now had few uses undler my belt on this truck and nothing has failed or started signs of weakness. The only problem I ran into was chosing to drive 45 min. for nitrous that costs $3.50 a lb., or 55 mins. for nos that costs $3.00 a lb. . . . . . . . .
